Chad Arney is one of six artists showing his work in the Chapel Gallery’s current exhibition, The Iron Workers Union: Part II. The individual pieces that make u...p his work started as items that were used then discarded by the roadside or at the dump until found by Chad. Rusty wheel barrows, glass door knobs, bicycle handles and car parts become snails, turtles and other sculptures. It’s being like Dr. Frankenstein, breathing new life into my creations from mismatched parts says Chard. Like many artists, Chad caught the artistic bug early and formally studied art at Sheridan College and Georgian College. I hadn’t thought about art as a profession until I started college and from there I have realized that it is a lifelong endeavour regardless of whether or not it pays the bills, says Chad who learns through observation and experimentation, even if it sometimes means he makes mistakes. Chad states My work has gotten more sculptural and monumental. It challenges me and when I accomplish my goal, I move on to the next challenge. The work pictured below is called Star of the Apocalypse and is made from found steel and implements.
