Ottawa Public health requires mask use in indoor public spaces. Please use your mask at Chahaya Malaysia. (If you have trouble remembering to take the mask when you exit your car, you can attach a longish string to both earloops and slip the mask around your neck each time you enter your car. This way, when you enter any establishment, you just have to put on the ear loops and pull up the mask

Chahaya Malaysia was one of the locations used in a video made by Noisey on Vice Canada featuring Deen Squad (a rap duo who retool rap songs so they are palatable to people who don't enjoy violent or misogynist lyrics). Our thanks to Vice and to Deen Squad. Enjoy

10/V11 Vegetables in coconut sauce/ Sayur masak lemak A variety of vegetables, including dried bean curd and young jackfruit are braised in coconut milk. This sauce is spiced with lemongrass, galanga, chili, and in the non vegetarian version, a little blacan(shrimp paste) and minced dried shrimp. This dish is very good with our rendang(#45), the soya chicken(#48), or the Bali beef(#43), or Soya tofu(#V9).

V10. Fried tempeh/ Tempeh goreng Tempeh, which is cooked and cultured soya bean, is lightly breaded with seasoned rice flour and deep-fried. We serve it with our homemade dip- Indonesian sweet soya sauce spiced with fresh garlic and a little chili. A rare treat in Asian restaurants, tempeh is very popular and widely consumed in Indonesia.

V15. Eggs in curry sauce/ Telor masak kari Boiled eggs are braised in our seafood/ vegetable blend of Malaysian curry spices. A hearty and satisfying dish that is full flavoured, but not too hot!

41. Chili squid/ Sambal Sotong Squid is tossed in a generous portion of our seared tomato sauce. This sauce is spiced with lemongrass, galanga, a touch of blacan(shrimp paste), lots of chillies, and with a splash of coconut milk to smooth it out. As it comes, the sauce is very hot indeed. We make each portion from scratch, so if you want it toned down, we will be happy to oblige!

30. Homecooked lamb/ Daging kambing masak keluarga Our fresh trimmed and sliced lamb is stir-fried with lots of vegetables, including bean sprouts. It is lightly seasoned with sweet soya sauce, oyster sauce, garlic, and chillies if you so choose. This is a very good dish for those who are watching calories!

60. Indonesian egg noodles/ Bak mee goreng Egg noodles are sauteed with bean sprouts, cabbage, green onions, and baby shrimp. Spiced with sweet soya sauce, garlic and your choice of hotness, these are a Dutch favourite.
