It saddens us to announce that we are unable to have an audience for the October 4 concert. Quite understandably, St. Stephen's is still learning from their experiences of having attendees at their Sunday service and are not yet ready to welcome us home. However, we are excited to announce that we will be recording the concert and will share a concert link in the coming weeks. Note that instead of a cello quintet, we will have a string quartet perform the works of Janacek, B...eethoven and Shostakovich. If you’re able, please consider turning your ticket purchase into a charitable donation to the Instrumental Society of Calgary. Alternatively, we will offer a refund. Please let us know your preference by October 4, 2020. We continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and will take all necessary steps to protect the health and safety of our performers, patrons and volunteers. We are hopeful that we will be able to welcome you in person at our November 8th concert. Please visit our website (https://instrumentalsociety.ca/) or follow us on social media for more updates as they become available.

We are happy to announce that we have elected a new president! Join us in welcoming, Brad Mahon to the ISC board. Here is a little bit about Brad: Day Job:... I’m Dean of the Faculty of Continuing Education at Mount Royal University. Mount Royal’s Conservatory of Music is also in my portfolio. Moonlighting: When I’m not in committee meetings or studying spreadsheets, I regularly sneak off campus to moonlight as a guitarist, adjudicator, clinician, and lecturer. I’ve released three commercial CDs, have appeared as a guest on several other recordings, and continues to maintain my long-standing affiliation with the Royal Conservatory of Music as an examiner and administrative lead for its guitar program. Past Lives: I have also held senior leadership roles at the University of Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts and the Medicine Hat College Conservatory of Music and Dance. Why the ISC? I am excited to join the ISC because of the tremendous contribution it makes to the Calgary Arts Community. From featuring Calgary’s best musicians in concert, to education and outreach programs that take the arts into schools, seniors’ homes, hospitals, and other venues, to connecting music to health and healing. I’m so proud to be part of this organization.
