About CharisArt(CharisArt) Nowadays, arts education is becoming more and more popular with children as a favorite pastime or a prospective career path. For me, art is the creation of visual, auditory, or performing artifacts that expresses the artist’s unique imaginative skill intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. Drawing and painting are two of the most common options for children’s art education. As an art teacher, I believe that drawing is not j...ust a technical skill and that children should not be limited by just two forms of media. I would like to show children that there are numerous forms of art including calligraphy, sculpture, architecture, literature, music, photography, dance, installations, performance, and language. Therefore, instead of applying my idea of creative representation onto the student, I would like to inspire them to create their own ideas of a masterpiece and develop their own unique style. Through this, I also hope to foster their patience and perseverance. In my classroom, I like to create a comfortable and creative atmosphere for my students. I would like my students to slowly fall in love with art as they find their own methods of creative expression. Since I was four, I started drawing and painting in a Chinese educational background. My teachers and parents constantly forced me to practice for competitions and exams. I did not enjoy this type of atmosphere as it made me think of learning art a chore rather than a hobby. When I was seventeen, I came to Canada to continue my studies. I loved the teaching environment and my passion for art grew even stronger. I wouldn’t say I am an artist or an educational expert either. I would proudly consider myself an art lover. During my previous experience as a teacher, I discovered that I loved to work with kids and always received positive feedback from parents. Teaching connects my love for creating art with working with children. My educational background allows me to create a balance of Chinese and Western education a combination of perseverance and freedom for creative exploration. I hope every class is an enjoyable and challenging journey for my students.

About Charis Qian Charis Qian, I became very interested in drawing ever since I was 4 years old. Throughout my years of study, my interest gradually blossomed into a deep passion for visual arts and design. My strong academic background in art has provided me with a strong foundation in various art mediums and techniques. In 2005, I graduated at the top of my hometown in the Gaokao examination from the Shunde District and was accepted by the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.... With my strong passion for art, I came to Canada to continue my arts education when I was 17 years old. I majored in the visual art program in Bayside Secondary School and graduated with a specialist degree in Visual Studies with a minor in Media Studies from the University of Toronto. Since 2011, I have been working as a fine arts teacher for one of Toronto’s most well-known and formal fine art learning centers. I also organized and supervised all of their camp programs. These experiences have given me a wide range of skills in teaching and working with children. Meanwhile, I have been tutoring middle school and high school graduate candidates to prepare their art portfolio for post-secondary education. My students successfully received offers from the University of Waterloo Architecture program, Western University Fine Arts program, Ryerson University Architecture and Fashion Design programs, Earl Haig Secondary School, Alexander Mackenzie Secondary School, Unionville High School and Westmount Secondary School Visual Arts program. I have a strong feeling that I am not just teaching children, I find myself learning a lot from them instead. Purity, truth and innocence are the qualities I always see from children which I admire the most. 4 200517BellevilleBayside Secondary School 2011 Waterloo University, Western Ontario, Ryerson University; Earl HaigAlexander Mackenzie, Unionville Westmount High School
