What's that 'popping' noise in the forest? Chipmunks are very vocal in the fall and late summer. They'll give repeated "chuck-chuck-chuck" calls (almost sounding bird-like). The calls may help to advertise to other chipmunks that that territory is occupied.

How do birds find their way, as they migrate south? Some studies suggest that some birds, like this Indigo Bunting, use the stars to navigate, while other birds use other cues (or multiple cues). Bird migration is indeed a true marvel of nature.

The odd Spring Peeper can be heard calling sporadically in the fall. At this time of year the calling frogs (males) are usually away from their spring breeding sites.

We’re expecting many visitors this weekend. We’ll be implementing measures to address overcrowding and promote physical distancing in our park during busy visitation times by limiting occupancy for day-use.

UPDATE: New this year for fall - We've moved to 100% of our campsites being reservable, both campground and backcountry. Unlike past falls, there will not be any designated first-come-first-serve campsites. To avoid disappointment, we recommend making a reservation ahead of time.
