Hello, Beautiful Friends! We have really missed all of your lovely smiles these past few months, but we’ve got some good news.... we are currently preparing to re-open our doors! We know that especially in a time like this, it is imperative that your safety is at the forefront of our practice, and we want you to know that we are taking every possible precaution to ensure you feel at ease in our care.... When entering our office we can assure you that our staff will be wearing protective equipment, all patients will be screened by phone 24 hours before their appointment time, our reception area will have new plexiglass barriers installed and we will, of course, ensure that limited patients are in the building and those who are will be expected to practice social distancing guidelines. We have always prided ourselves on being top of our field in sanitization measures, and can assure you we are working diligently to follow all mandated guidelines to protect your health. It seems as though sickness has been spreading quickly & fiercely this past month. While we hope you stay healthy this winter, it seems to be hiding around every corner. Here are our tips for taking care of your oral hygiene during cold and flu season. 1. Maintain Good Hygiene: while it can be difficult to even get out of bed sometimes when you’re battling the flu, do your best to keep up with your brushing and flossing- this will help kill any bacteria living in your mouth,... resulting in the potential for a quicker recovery. 2. Choose Sugar Free Cough Drops: always read the labels when purchasing cough drops for your sore throat. Ensure that you choose sugar-free to avoid future dental concerns. 3. Swish & Spit After Vomiting: Unfortunately, a common symptom of the flu is vomiting. Though you may feel the urge to brush your teeth immediately It is actually better to wait. When you vomit, stomach acid coats your mouth and teeth, and brushing may cause you to rub that acid into the outer shell of your teeth. We recommend swishing with water, a light mouthwash, or a baking soda + water combination, then brushing 30 minutes later. 4. Stay Hydrated: drinking plenty of water is crucial when you are sick. When it comes to your teeth, water will help prevent dry mouth. Dry mouth can cause cavities, and is more common while sick due to the medications you may be taking. Ensure you are staying hydrated to prevent the potential for cavities. 5. Choose The Right Fluids: While often times we believe choices like sports drinks and orange juice are best for a variety of reasons, both contain high amounts of sugar, which is not only bad for your mouth but also may hinder your recovery.
