The theatre world has lost an icon. Brent Carver embodied what every artist should strive to be; honest, vulnerable, pure, detailed, patient and generous. Every production he was in was improved immensely by his presence. He was a joy to work with and a wonder to watch perform. Brent's absence from the Canadian theatre community will be felt for generations but his performances will never be forgotten. - Artistic Director Adam Brazier Image: Brent Carver and Rory Dodd in the 1975 Charlottetown Festival production of Kronborg 1582.

We are saddened by the passing of Douglas Mawson (1950 2020). Douglas, one of 'The Mawson Boys', spent over 30 summers on PEI with his family while his mother, Elizabeth was on stage as part of the Festival, playing Marilla Cuthbert. Douglas & Allan often worked Front of House here and loved more than anything spending time with their mother and those golden Island summers. The Mawson Rehearsal Hall is named in Elizabeth's honour. In 2014, Douglas & Allan returned and have s...ince spent two weeks each summer with their 'PEI Family'. There was nothing Douglas liked more than taking people to the theatre. His generosity allowed many to share in that experience with him and brought him much joy. Douglas so looked forward to those weeks on PEI each summer, and taking those he cared for to see live theatre," offers long-time staffer Sarah Hastelow. "I am actually somewhat thankful that there was no Festival this summer, as I know that it would have been heartbreaking for him to know he was missing a year of 'Anne' due to his health. My family and I are blessed to be part of his and Allan’s 'PEI Family' and we will miss him dearly. In 2014 Douglas and Allan created The Elizabeth Mawson Theatre Legacy Fund to be dedicated to the development of new theatrical works at Confederation Centre. If you’d like to make a donation in memory of Douglas, you can do so here: https://confederationcentre.com//foundation/donate-to-the/
