Following the Provincial Health Officer's province-wide restrictions and the new Provincial Orders, it is with great regret and total understanding that the Chase Country Christmas Committee has officially cancelled this year's parade. Due to the uncertainty of the provincial orders regarding the Gathering and Events Order and our unique and safe parade concept, the committee reached out to the Interior Health Officer who is one of 4 members of the Interior Health COVID Task ...Force in charge of the order, and they confirmed that all parades are considered prohibited under "Indoor or Outdoor Seasonal Events" as part of the Gathering and Events Order by the PHO until December 7th. The committee discussed whether or not to postpone the parade until the following weekend, but chose to cancel the event altogether in case the order is extended. "This was not an easy decision for the committee to make, but the only decision to make based on the orders and the safety of the community" said Ali Maki, Councillor and Festival and Events Liaison for the Village of Chase. "The committee struggled making the decision prior to confirmation, the idea of bringing safe - happiness and cheer into the Village during such unprecedented times was the main focus of the committee this year", added Maki. David Lepsoe, Parade Marshall shared that many businesses and organizations expressed their excitement that the community has offered a way to celebrate in such a festive and safe manner and was very disheartened to hear the confirmation from the Health Officer, Maki adds. "The committee still encourages everyone in the community to "Light Up Chase" to bring some joy and peace of mind during the holidays, in a pandemic. The committee's fundraiser is still happening with encouragement to "like '' their Facebook page Chase Country Christmas and participate in the online voting from December 4th to December 14th. There are many businesses that are displaying their trees in their business so we also encourage to view them there and follow their respective safety plans and protocols and shop local this holiday season. The remainder of the trees will be at Nationwide Appliances and can be viewed through the window, or inside following the Chase and District Museum and Archives' Christmas Store's safety plans. Councillor Alison Lauzon will be "Lighting Up" the Cyndy Einfeld Memorial Christmas Tree on December 4th. She will be recording it and posting online for all to view, safely from your homes. Unfortunately, the 26th Annual Chase Country Christmas will not happen as planned but if we all do our part, we will celebrate the 27th Annual event with pride and cheer.
