Brochu at Team Canada’s camp London Knights goalie Brett Brochu of Tilbury began Canada’s national junior team selection camp Monday in Red Deer, Alta. Brochu, 18, is one of 18 OHL players at the 46-player camp, which will run until Dec. 13.... The former Dresden Jr. King led the Ontario Hockey League last season with a 2.40 goals-against average as a rookie. He was second in save percentage (.919) and tied for second in wins (32). The camp begins with several days of practice and off-ice activity before the first scrimmage is held Saturday. After three intrasquad scrimmages, the Team Canada hopefuls will play six exhibition games against a team of Canadian university players. The camp roster includes six players who helped Canada win gold at the 2020 world junior championship. The 2021 championship will begin Dec. 25 in Edmonton. We know our athletes are excited for the opportunity to defend gold on home ice this year, and we expect a highly competitive selection camp with a number of difficult decisions to be made when it comes time to select the players who will wear the Maple Leaf in Edmonton in December, Scott Salmond, Hockey Canada’s senior vice-president of national teams, said in a statement.

Since the school year of 2003-2004, the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame has sponsored a $250.00 bursary which is given annually to a graduating student in each of Chatham’s four high schools Chatham Christian High School, Chatham-Kent Secondary School, John McGregor Secondary School, and Ursuline College The Pines. The bursary is awarded to a graduating student who has contributed to the betterment of their school’s athletics in a non-playing capacity. The award acknowledges a student who has unselfishly given their time performing one or more of the following duties: coaching, managing, scorekeeping, fundraising, serving on the athletic society, or any other such service to the athletic program.
