Passover (in Hebrew, Pesach) commemorates the exodus of the Jews from slavery in Egypt. The holiday originated in the Torah, where the word pesach refers to the ancient Passover sacrifice (known as the Paschal Lamb); it is also said to refer to the idea that God passed over (pasach) the houses of the Jews during the 10th plague on the Egyptians, the slaying of the first born. The holiday is ultimately a celebration of freedom, and the story of the exodus from Egypt is a powerful metaphor that is appreciated not only by Jews, but by people of other faiths as well. Happy Passover!!

Yemin Orde Youth Village, located on 77 acres atop Mount Carmel in northern Israel, is home, school and safe haven to 440 at-risk and immigrant youth from around the world including North Africa, Iran, India, Yemen and Eastern Europe. Most of the children have suffered trauma in their young lives including loss, neglect, abandonment and extreme poverty. During our visit to Yemin Orde, Chaverim On Campus had the unforgettable opportunity to hear from Batya Shmueli. Batya shar...ed her personal story of having to forcefully leave Ethiopia with her family for Israel, losing many loved ones along the way due to extreme conditions and murders. Despite the heavyhearted events, Batya made it to Israel. Learning from Batyas story, members of Chaverim On Campus understood the important life lessons which include: remembering and honouring your roots as well as heritage, always appreciating the sacrifices our parents make for us and finally to always strive to make the best out of every new day. At Yemin Orde, they find a home, a family and a future
