Our strategic plan for 2020-2021 includes reno's on the station equipment to make it easier for community use -- installing equipment that will improve studio interviews and also call-in features on shows -- developing programs that address community dreams, needs and crises -- doing all this and more to get more "listenears" -- we are already seeking funding to help make this happen so that being a volunteer dj or host will be way more fun. Please, if you have been involved with CHCR in the past, consider coming back to support all these positive changes? Together we can make this little homegrown radio station shine-shine-shine.

Hi! This post is from Ann Pohl, host of Terraliben when I can figure out how to get it on the air again, AND ALSO an admin on the CJCP page. Tomorrow is an international day of events calling for action on climate issues. Last year, I went to Montreal and marched with several members of my family as well as 500,000 other people including Greta Thunberg, who did so much to bring awareness to this crisis and the ongoing collapse, and government/corporate negligence. This is a ...totally different year, with "The Virus Returns" in mainstream media and minds. But the total collapse of our planetary climate will make COVID19 look like child's play, especially because with a truly degraded climate there will be many more "biotic" infections. Tomorrow is also my birthday and it just seems like the very best way to celebrate it is to attend this event, with my mask and sign and following all protocols. I see Dorian is attending, but even if we are the only two there, it will still be the best use of my time tomorrow... :D Not sure who is organizing this, but I found it on the Global Fridays for Future webpage. Then we shared it to our CJCP FB page. The point is, someone took the initiative. On behalf of this almost 70 year old granny and all future generations, Many Thanks! See more

Someone I know posted this article. I responded to him: "I read the whole thing, trying to figure out the main point and it was in the last sentence. And I just cannot agree. "As a lifetime perpetual-motion activist, there was a time when I indeed operated on the "presumption" that government "policy decisions" were "motivated by public best interests." No more... I could write a minimum five page essay with examples, but I will try to keep this to a few paragraphs....Continue reading

The brand new City of Pembroke Climate Advisory Committee has 6 community members, two advisors, and two members of council. Dorian Pearce and Maxine K Jeffrey, who made the presentation and request to City Council to form this committee are both appointed. I tried to learn more about the other four online, and those I found look cool as well. I will not print their names here as I do not know for sure how to spell them, so we will have to wait until the Mayor contacts them ...and gets the committee underway. The two advisors I do know -- Cameron Montgomery and Duncan Noble. Excellent choices by Council. Thanks for taking this so seriously and looking forward to all the differences you will make, Mayor Mike LeMay and Pembroke Councillors. The announcement of names of people appointed to the committee starts at 26'30" on this video of this weeks council meeting. See more

Tonight. Monday July 27 - 7 PM. >>> This is going to be a great webinar. I just finished reading the first preparatory resource listed in this post, and it is Right On! -- a comment I make from my 50+ years of activism, mobilizing, people-centred social education, organizing, etc. Wish I could have written it, but my skills are not really in writing long stuff, more in doing. Tonight I will be DOING this webinar, which is organized by savvy water protectors from Wellington County, who have a really cool longer vision plan they are developing for a Peoples' Water Campaign. To register for this webinar, email to: Mike Balkwill

A true modern-day hero. In two short Spirited years, Greta Thunberg did a superhuman-incredible job of raising global awareness about the importance of humans changing our ways to protect each other and all life on our planet. ...It is up to each of us to do the work of protection, the stopping/thinking/replacing/transitioning/demanding/investing/elbow-grease work. I can feel the ancestors and the descendants are rooting for Greta's chutzpah and commitment. ...Here's a Question for You: what makes sense to do in Killaloe-Hagarty-Richards, right now?

Working my brain around what my radio show Terraliben should focus on now. Soon as i figure that out, I will be back on the air.

Online webinars and such are how we do popular education and people's media at the moment. I am intending to take part in this one. The issues are so crucial for us in the Ottawa River watershed and broader Ottawa Valley, heck the whole planet! The horrible truth is that the federal government/SNC-Lavelin & Co's plans for handling waste from Chalk River would get a fail in a high-school science class. Please consider attending and getting involved on this issue?

As you know, Terraliben is off the air until The Virus recedes, but I have been trying to keep up with current events. This article is on the FB group I started a couple weeks ago. Please consider reading it and if you are moved to respond, please consider going to the Looking Past COVID19: Social & Ecological Justice Action to do so? We need to build dialogue on these points.

Terraliben Fans: I recently found out about this group and joined it. With our CHCR - Canadian Homegrown Community Radio station temporarily not doing live broadcasts because of social distancing and related factors, I have been feeling derelict in my duty even though I can't do anything about it right now. ...Then I saw that this group has this great online talk happening tomorrow morning. Perhaps you want to join the page and listen in too? Not sure if you need an invite t..., so let me know if you do? (Pssst: It says it starts at GMT-6, which I am almost sure means Prairie time, or two hours later in Eastern Time, so at noon here in Killaloe Ontario, etc.) https://www.facebook.com/organisingintimesofcovid19/p hotos/a.109170664065397/110434750605655/

I so VERY MUCH believe in radio! I am SO SAD we had to shut down *LIVE PROGRAMMING* at our CHCR - Canadian Homegrown Community Radio station for a while. Being cash-barebones, multi-volunteer-run, we had to... So, I am going to give the competition Big Praise! I am loving listening to Matt Galloway's CBC Radio: The Current, for valid and non-alarmist conversation about current global health concerns. It now runs from 8:30 am to Noon. Today, for example, The Current featur...ed Dr. Alison McGeer, an infectious diseases expert, physician and scholar from Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital and U of T. She answered questions from the public that were sent in after Galloway called for them on yesterday's morning show. It was very *interesting* and in many ways *reassuring* to hear what Dr. McGeer had to say. Another good show is CBC's *Ontario Today* which runs from noon to 1pm. Again, valid content and a chance to call in if you wish. Could help with social isolation blues. It does for me. TODAY at noon, it will be co-hosted by two teens and focus entirely on youth concerns and questions. Well worth a tune-in if you have some at home with you. I listen on a radio at 92.5 in Killaloe, but you can also livestream or look for podcasts. If you need help with finding this online, pm me? ... Trigger Warning: if your anxiety level is already over the top, be sure to turn down the brief news report on the half hour and the slightly longer one on the hour. We already know there is a big problem, and news reporters always try to make their stories "exciting". (Gotta say this one last thing: Galloway is a fabulous host. I hope I can grow up to be half as good as him on Terraliben when we are back on the air.) https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-63-the-current

Our station has closed to the public until future notice. All our volunteers are feeling stressed, and most importantly we're abiding by the best social distancing principles we can. Prerecorded programs will run in the interim. See you on the flip side! Here is a social distancing graphic that needs more circulation. JUST CLICK IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT "EMPTY" BOX. Hahah! There is invisible ink and an image will appear when you click! Please consider sharing? https://en.wikipedia.org//File:Covid-19-Transmission-graph

Thanks for the kind words, Jesse Hirsh. I will share this with Ruby and Jesse Hockey.
