Dog lovers will love this post and anyone that likes animals will too! Dog's noses are amazing and can be trained to even be more amazing. As part of 'Fire Friday', here is a snippet video from a seminar from Dr. Court Sandau on how an accelerant detection canine's nose works and why it is better than a laboratory in detecting ignitable liquid residues. A recent publication using #GCxGC demonstrated that these dogs are in fact more sensitive than our best instrumentation. #forensics #arsoninvestigation Click on link to learn how the dog's nose works; https://bit.ly/2NJNaZv

Model Monday at Chemistry Matters also means a reminder of short course offered by Chemistry Matters at PITTCON. Most of our chemistry work involves a lot of data. Environmental contaminant data for our litigation and environmental forensics work. Chemical data from our arson and petroleum forensics work. Even routine soil and ground water monitoring programs for better data interpretation. Once you have that data, what do you do with it? Our own Mike Dereviankin will be... teaching a course on that very topic. Data Analytics and Statistics in Quantitative Chemical Analysis Chemometric Workflow for Forensic Investigations. If you are thinking of attending Pittcon 2021 (in New Orleans March 6-10), make sure to sign up for this great course. More information and course breakdown can be found on our Chemistry Matters website: https://hubs.li/H0yBm_R0 #PITTCON2021 #forensics #chemistrymatters #environmentalforensics Full list of courses at PITTCON found here (https://hubs.li/H0yBv3B0).
