Cherry Turbos

This is one of the first tools I made in 1990. It was for sand blasting Garrett hold-down brackets. Spruce two by four and 2 inch nails. It was retired this past week.

TB03 Garrett turbo. Bought it as a core a year and a half ago. Seemed not too bad. The turbine housing was pitted a bit heavily so I looked around in the "archives" and found a real nice one. Here it is in pieces cleaned up and ready for the clean room. Its for a Pontiac Firebird from 79 80 and 81 301 cubic inch turbo car. Rare as hens teeth. I even got the carburetor bowl that attaches to the compressor inlet. Assembled pic to come this week.

Hmm. No packing material at all. Please surround the turbo with some sort of material to keep it from exiting the box. I hope this one isnt damaged.

Turbos dont have seals. I get sooo many calls about "blown" seals. If it has a mechanical failure your turbo may pass oil. If the crankcase pressure is greater than the force of gravity acting on the drainback oil then guess what? The center cavity of the turbo "bearing housing" will fill up and liters of oil will pass by the "seals"

5 broken bolts. GM Duramax turbine housing. Welded washer, welded nut, quench in cold water.......bingo!

This is a neat Garrett turbo off a Bentley.

Rarely see a Grand National turbo any more. Two this month. This one gets 50 trim comp and stage 3 turbine.

Porsche 944 upgrade. Compressor is much more efficient and able to provide solid air flow through the engines entire rev range. Some creative machining to keep it mostly bolt-in.
