VIRTUAL LESSONS UPDATE and TIPS: REALLY important: software is up to date! ... Home Set-up - Important Pointers and reminders 1. Place your device on a table or raised setting which is stable and approximately 4 feet away from the piano, showing your right profile if possible. The camera angle should be slightly elevated above the keyboard, so that the full keyboard and hand position can be clearly viewed. 2. for those who have at home microphones and/or speaker extensions to your interface, please do not place these close to your laptop, iPad. They should be at least a foot away so that residual reverb through Skype/Facetime does not occur in real time during the lessons. 3. Ensure that there is good lighting near your piano. 4. Please ensure that there’s no residual background noise such as a loud TV, phone conversations in the same room and the like during lesson time if possible, as they are distracting. 5. Have several sharpened pencils and erasers within easy access as well as a metronome. Highlighters are a must! 6. Lesson notes: These are typed out into your SKYPE chat box, or emailed to you. 7. To be courteous to the student whose lesson is proceeding in the time slot prior to yours, and to keep running as smoothly as possible, please allow the teacher to contact you when it is your scheduled lesson appointment. #teaching #teacherlife #remotelearning #technology #pianolessons #pianoteacher #pianist #vocalcoach #teacherlife

Lots of students are trying new things, like signing up to play at local music festivals. Very proud at the initiative shown by some of my students who are asking for more performance opportunities. Yip's Music Festival applications were due this week, but you can still sign up late. Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival applications are due in March! - pro tip- start making practice videos so that you get used to playing for the camera! It adds a little more pressure to play well and you can self- assess what needs to improve and what went well! #teaching #remotelearning #virtuallearning #pianist #pianolessons #pianoteacher #studentlife #acheiveyourgoals #festivals
