The building blocks of an innovation powerhouse are here in #yeg and Alberta. We have world-class research universities, significant pools of capital, a highly skilled workforce, enviable quality of life, and are one of the top five regions in the world for artificial intelligence research. Our task now is to bring these assets together and harness Alberta’s energy and talents to build a competitive tech ecosystem that rivals any others. Effectively leading A City That Works starts with a Council that works. Both during my time at Innovate Edmonton when I would participate in Committee and Council meetings to today, I continually notice that far too much time, energy, and taxpayer money is wasted exploring ideas that other cities have already researched and implemented. We need to embrace their learnings. The bottom line is that we’re wasting time, and other cities are outpacing us. ... As Mayor, I will lead a collaborative, aligned council. I commit to ensuring our debates, motions, and inquiries are based on the principles of our own planning. The City Plan is our guiding document. We’ve gotten off course on too many occasions and lost the thread on what to care about and spend time on. While individual councillors can vote as they like, as Mayor I will hold Council and City Administration accountable to our defined goals and objectives.

We celebrate #NationalNursingWeek every year, but this year feels different. 14 months into a global pandemic, our nurses continue to work tirelessly and have faced adversity, loss, and incredible challenges. Thank you for your service to your community. #NursingWeek2021

It truly takes a village of strong, understanding and giving women. Some have kids, some don’t. But I know there’s a community amongst us that will always do what it takes to support one another. Moms, those trying to be, those wishing to be, those choosing not to be, those who can’t, I’m thinking about you today and how much more compassionate our world is because of you.
