The Ghost of Haddon Hall Courtesy of Sharon Houghton Many ghosts returned to the material world because they have become attached to a certain place. Such as the ghost of Haddon Hall period this particular ghost is an elderly lady who roams the Hall and has done so since her death in the last century. She was a flamboyant lady who loved life, parties, and music. She was well read and well respected in the neighborhood. She was a deeply religious person. One morning in the 194...0s her body was discovered by the milkman. No one knows what happened to her, although I'm sure there was much speculation about how she died. Her presence in the Hall is recognized when the temperature in the room drops by 5 to 10 degrees and an elderly lady appears. This particular ghost has been seen by guests and staff when the Hall was run as an Inn. It would appear that this ghost has a good sense of humor. She is also made her present known by turning on taps, someone turns off the tabs and they are immediately turned back. She becomes a blue light in front of the television making one think the television is and people go to turn it off only to find that it isn't on. She is known to knock three times on the walls or on doors, sometimes opening doors which should be left closed Sitting on beds that were just made and leaving them looking as if they had not been attended to thus getting the staff in trouble. She most often appears at night and is often heard walking and knocking at the same time . She likes to warn people if something isn't right. For instance, one night some of the heating registers were not working correctly. The ghost knocked three times on the manager's door. The manager went out of her room and discovered that all of the other register shad begun knocking at the same time. The manager at the time had a pet bird. She went to the room where she kept her bird and found that the register in that room was one that was not working correctly. The bird would have frozen to death that the owner had not been warned. Consequently the ghost is believed to be a friendly ghost. Dogs note she is there. They have been known to look at a particular spot and bark at that spot even if no one is seen. Motion detectors have been activated even when there has been no wind or other action to set them off. This ghost seems to enjoy the fact that her home is filled with people and is very thankful that these people are enjoying their stay, but she also seems to want to be a part of their visit. Many folks who did not believe in ghosts who went to Haddon Hall either to visit or work now believe in the supernatural world. There is also another ghost story about Haddon Hall who was a chauffeur or butler. If anyone remembers that story we would be happy to have it just let us know. See more
