We are so excited to introduce Cuong Tran, our very first recipient of the Van Tran CVBF Memorial Bursary. The Bursary was founded by Dr. Grace Le to honour the memory and spirit of our dear friend Van Tran and her dedication to this Foundation. It is our hope that this bursary will help a post-secondary student who is not only in financial need, but is also actively participating and contributing to the betterment of our local Vietnamese community. Cuong is a relatively new... immigrant to Canada and is a student at NorQuest College. In the few short years in Edmonton, Cuong has become an active volunteer in our community, helping the Edmonton Vietnamese Association successfully participate in events such as the Heritage Days festivities and Tet celebration. His extensive volunteer work also include helping at a Taste of Edmonton festivals as well as helping in the repair/clearn-up after the Fort MacMurray flood. We also received a number of letters of support for Cuong, providing the following testimonial: "this energetic young guy did not talk much but worked very hard all day long with a smile always on his face" "He always is the first to come and the last to go until the task is accomplished." "Cuong is a hard-working student struggling with language barriers and financial difficulties to better himself for a good life in Canada." "Often Cuong will do double shifts. His commitment to his assignment is exemplary to all of those who associated with him. Many time he had to take a bus , then a LR Transit and continue on another bus to get to where needed him for his volunteering." "His dedication to community is tireless and appreciated." "On non-event days, Cuong has sometimes been willing to come help clean the Vietnam Centre’s property when his school schedules allow." Congratulations, Cuong! Van would be so proud!!

YOU did it, dearest friends!!! This year was all YOU! Despite not being able to come together for our annual dinner, you still helped the Children of Vietnam Benevolent Foundation raise over $19,000. We will do our best to honour your kindness and generosity as we continue to give hope and opportunities to impoverished children through love, education and the provision of basic needs. Our deepest, heartfelt thanks to all the amazing businesses and dear friends who helped mak...e our 8th Annual Fundraising Campaign a success during these difficult times: ABC Lawn & Landscaping All Season's Driving Ltd Author Karen Spafford-Fitz Calmar Pharmacy (Tanya Long) Calmar Fas Gas (Kathy & Darrin Mills) Councillor Ben Henderson (Ward 8) Countryside Vision Care (Sara Starko) Jimmy's Pilotcar & General Hauling Ltd (Judy & Jim Anderson) Leduc Boston Pizza (Darlene & Ken Behiel) Lemongrass Cafe (Liana Dien) Lynn Tomasch Lourance (Norwex Products) Mai Morgan Signs (Justine Dien) Maxwell Auto MP Industries Ltd (Quang Mai) Savannah Dental (Dr. Quinn Pham) Wellness Massage (Gabby Quach) Bill Harany Caroline Larouche Cecile Phan Courtney Johnston Cynthia & Raymond Cheung Dan Nguyen Debbie Mousseau Delores Wolski Dong Phan McEwan University Vietnamese Student Union Hoan Le & Jim McQuarrie Jacky Doan Jim Gurnett Kenya Davies Laura Pilgrim Laverne Bissky Lee Hewitt Lynn & Steven Le Maithy Tran Marilyn Mosicki Michelle Ngo Nicole Michaud Pao Lau Rob Bernshaw Steff Parker Tara Deer Tololwa Mollel Yen Le Yiqing Kassey p.s. We didn't expect the Online Silent Auction to be so successful, as we raised $2585 from it, which is half of what we normally make at our live events, for a third of the items we normally lay out. So, THANK YOU to all those who participated and placed bids. It was actually quite fun Big hugs to all!!
