TODAY is Bell Let's Talk Day, a day where your actions on social media can raise money to support mental health initiatives all over Canada. Children's Centre Thunder Bay has had the honour of receiving funds from Bell Let's Talk Day to increase our ability to provide mental health services quickly to those who need it. Today when you share a video, make a post or TikToc video, use the hashtag #BellLetsTalk to help raise awareness (and money) for mental health initiatives!

Holiday gatherings look a bit different this year and that includes our own annual holiday party. Taking the changes in stride, we created a drive-thru Holiday Party in a Bag. Families could register in advance to receive a gift bag full of holiday goodies such a ginger bread houses, painted shortbread cookies, crafts, and gift card to a local restaurant. With the support of local sponsors, the event provided 150 children with holiday goodies! Special thanks is extended to 2tone Music Productions, Children's Centre Foundation Thunder Bay, Chimo Building Centre, Eat Local Pizza, Fort Garry Industries, Jayson Stoppel, Novi's Bread & Sweets, and Waste Connections - Thunder Bay. Huge thank you to all the volunteers who spent the day singing and dancing to holiday tunes and helping us put big smiles on children’s faces!

During this week we recognize the contributions and value of Trans Canadians in our communities, and remember and honour those who lost their lives to transphobic violence and hate. Violence against Trans people is still too common. Many Trans people battle anxiety when they leave their homes, as they face emotional and physical violence, often every day. Many face difficul...ties with social engagements, school-based activities, and finding sustainable employment in a climate where their identity and personhood can be subject to denial and invasive questioning. Our government has passed legislation to protect Trans Canadians. It is clearly needed, as each piece of work we have done spurs hurtful and damaging comments that imply these Canadians don’t deserve the legal protection of our Constitution that exists to protect every Canadian. For many people, the concepts of gender and sexuality are personal, fluid and exist on a spectrum. People struggle to discover who they are and how they wish the world to see them. The outward expressions of gender and sexuality that are taught by society do not always fit for everyone. And that’s okay. For Transgender Awareness Week, and Transgender Day of Remembrance, we recognize and honour the place of Transgender Canadians in our community. We welcome you into our public spaces and forums. We value your voice and your identity. And we hope that everyone in our community joins in expressing this sentiment of kindness, compassion and inclusion for everyone. #LoveIsKind #Transgender #TransWeek2020 #TransRemembrance

Children's Grief Awareness Day was designed to bring awareness to the importance of supporting the unique needs of children who are grieving a loss. The blue butterfly represents hope and is used around the world to raise awareness for grieving children and youth who can be the 'forgotten mourners' when someone dies in their family. This pandemic has not been easy on any of us, especially our kids. Thankfully our partners Children's Mental Health Ontario have put together some incredible resources.

The first few snowfalls of the season always bring mixed emotions. Some love the snow, while others can't wait for it to melt. We're thankful to have Triad Exterior Contracting keeping our staff and clients safe. They had our parking lot cleaned up by 7am this morning, just in time for the first few cars!

Chris's story is one of HARD WORK, COMMITMENT and TRUST in knowing that you can accomplish ANYTHING you set your mind and heart to. Chris is 21 years old and just completed an IRONMAN140.6 event. Chris finished this race 14 minutes under the 17 hour cut-off time. ... Chris has Down Syndrome.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day; a chance for everyone to join us in promoting understanding about suicide: those impacted by a suicide attempt or loss, family or friends, charitable organizations, professionals, politicians, volunteers, and community members. Every year on September 10th, people in over 50 countries connect to Work Together to Prevent Suicide. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, there are people who can help. In an immediate emergency you can call 911 or Crisis Response at 346-8282.
