Well the 2020/2021 season wasn’t how we expected it to go but let’s look at the positives. The kids were able get out of the house and practice their skills, they got a few games in before the restrictions, we fielded our first ever u5 team and women’s (U12) team, our registration numbers continued to climb (+50 kids this year), and we finally had lacrosse lines painted on our turf field. A huge thank you to all our volunteers that helped out this season and we look forward to getting back out on the field in September. Season Update Dec 4th: Due to the most recent health order restrictions and the return to Phase 2 for sport, we have decided to postpone all practices until the new year. We hope everyone has a safe Christmas and we look forward to getting back at it in 2021. Players: Keep a stick in your hands, play pass with a friend, find a wall, practice your best Byrne/Thompson shots, work on your dodges like Ament, long poles-practice your long bombs like Merrill, most importantly fin...d ways to have fun over the Christmas break. Its been a tough few weeks for our hawks program with the recent rise in Covid-19 cases in and around Chilliwack. Now seems like a perfect time to drop our new website as a distraction. Apparently Mother Nature wanted to make sure we stay safe inside First night back to practicing and nothing but hail storms and lighting. At least our u5s and u7s had a good 30 min before they could do snow angels in the frozen rain. #lacrosse #returntoplay

All games and practices are cancelled this weekend October 30-November 2nd. We will monitor things closely as more information becomes available from Fraser Health. Stay safe and we look forward to getting back out on the field soon.

Season Update November 11th 2020: Practices: After a 2 week hiatus and a confusing PHO statement, we will be resuming practices this Friday. We will have an updated covid policy to everyone Friday morning. Thank you for your patience during this time. Games: As per the Via-Sport guidelines, PHO orders, and the BCLA announcement, Games will continue on as normal starting this weekend. The league is putting a new schedule together that may affect some of our games. Please chec...k your emails over the next few days for changes. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out. Change of Directors: At this time, we would like to announce Logan Engel as our new interim VP. Our previous VP Kevin Eustace has stepped down from the role, we wish him the best and appreciate all that he has done for our association. Statement from our BCLA president regarding the restrictions now in place as of Saturday. All field lacrosse activities across the Fraser valley and lower mainland are on hold. Team announcements will be out soon from team managers.

The lacrosse community is at a loss for words with the tragic passing of two young Six Nations Minor Lacrosse players. This past Sunday our teams raised their sticks for Vernon and Kameren. Part 2: U13 Tier 2- Making their long awaited season opener after starting with a bye week, our top u13 team had a bit of a feeling out process in the first quarter taking a 6-3 lead at the end of the frame but showed their dominance in the final 3 quarters finishing with 16-5 win over Mission. Cashton Hemsworth (4G 4A), Levi Crooks (4G 1A), Brandyn Miller (3G) and Jamieson Miller (2G) had monster games for the home squad with Jameson Reed (1G 2A), Braiden Winnig (1G 2A) sett...ing up their teammates throughout the game. Backed with the steady Defensive play of Ashlyn Kuffler and Olin Driedger, this team looks to get back at it next game vs. Surrey. U15- It was a low scoring Sunday game for our Hawks as they had their first loss of the season courtesy of the Ridge Meadows Burrards. Final score was 5-2 with goals coming from Noah Choi and Connor Duncan. Although this team continues to play short handed due to injuries and pandemic related reasons, the team battled all game but simply ran out of bodies to help. Jeremiah Gibbs who is one of the top midfielders in the league filled in again at the goalie position and was absolutely lights out for the Hawks in net stopping a number of high quality scoring chances and sprinting up the field with goalie stick in hand giving our players a rest. #lacrosse #bclacrosse U18- It was a better showing than their last game but after a slow start our oldest squad couldn’t quite get things back on track with a 9-6 loss to Surrey. Keeping his hot hands going Hudson Dennill (2G 1A) added to his team leading scoring totals, Liam Hoogstraten (2G 1A) notched his first goals in a Hawk uniform, and Senior player Dylan Hawkins (2G) notched his first goals of the season. The team is gaining some traction and looks to notch it’s first win next weekend vs Vancouver/Richmond. U12G- Bye Week

U7- Our young squad went up against a very talented and much more experienced Mission Mud Dawg team this weekend and couldn’t quite keep their top players from finding the back of the net. Final score was 17-5 for the Mission team. Zachary Crompton led the way for the Hawks with 2 goals and 1 assist. Gus Reynolds, Thomas Brine, and Colby Wilson r...ounded out the scoring with a goal each. U9- Our U9 squad continues to impress. With 8 second year players moved up an age group to U11 for the season, this team has been dominant despite being mainly a first year team. Rookie U9 players Isaac Bosma and Ethan Causton led the way again for the Hawks for a 12-6 win over Mission with Bosma (4G 1A) and Causton (1G 1A) also contributing on the back end in a number of excellent defensive plays. Carter Siebring (3G) Lucas Stark (2G), Walker Jackson (1G), and Kyler Noppen (1G) all chipped in offensively. Noppen and Dayne Fillardeau both had excellent games on the defensive end. U11 Tier 1- Bye Week U11 Tier 3- Bye Week U13 Tier 3- If there is one thing this team has shown this year is their determination and heart. In this weekends matchup versus the Valley Attack, featuring 2 of the most dominant u13 players in the league (who also suit of for the provincial team) our home squad just wasn’t able to match the skill level of this team on this day losing 18-4. The heart that they showed in the fourth quarter was amazing. Being down 15 goals, the team came back and outscored Valley in final frame 3-2. Goal scorers were Jonah Choi (2G), Carter Cavanagh (1G) and Zachary Petraschuk (1G). Recap part 2 up next.

It was an impressive showing for our u13 squad this weekend. With many new to lacrosse players on the team, they unfortunately lost a close one to the Surrey Warriors 5-2. Clayton Bosma stood on his head at times in goal and was impressive for his first game as a back stopper. James Harmon and Jonah Choi both lead the way offensively for squad netting a goal each. Looking forward to seeing this team get back out there after getting a game under their belt. U13 Tier 1- Bye week U15- What a showing by our u15 squad right out of the gate. In their first game of the season, our team dominated all game while even being 1 man short for the game. Our resident superstar Noah Choi who will be attending @royalbayacademy in the new year led the way with 6 goals on the night. Tristan Dennill added another 2 goals with Mateo Trigueros adding a goal and an assist. Defensively Jeremiah Gibbs stepped up as the goalie for the game and stopped all but 2 shots leading the team to a 9-2 victory over Ridge Meadows. U18- The game didn’t go quite as planned for our boys in blue as the team was expected to be the powerhouse of the division. In their Sunday evening game the team couldn’t muster up a ton of offence against a Richmond/Vancouver combined team. Final score was 12-3 for the host. One of the bright spots was the play of righty u18 player Hudson Dennill who dropped all 3 goals for the Hawks after finishing a stellar season with the @unitedlacrosseleaguebc in the summer. U9- Bye week U11 Tier 3- In their second game of the season, our second u11 team, made up with 8 underage u9 players and 5 first years had an impressive showing against the Surrey Warriors top team. Our boys outshot and outplayed the surrey squad but couldn’t solve the goalie. Standouts for the game were U9 players Max Crompton and Ezra Bosma each with a goal and a number of excellent plays. Final score was 5-2 for surrey. U11 Tier 1- This squad continues to play with a bit of a chip on their shoulder after being placed in a lower tiered cohort for the season. Final score was 19-0 vs Mission Mud Dawgs. Through 2 games this team has 2 shots and 0 goals against. The defensive group with Riley Charlton/Kruz Luis/Ashton Osell has been unbeatable so far. Standouts were Sebastian Saunders (5 goals/2 assists) Kieren Dartnell (4 goals/4 assists) and Grayson Mouritzen (5 goals/1 assist). U12 Womens- Led by rookie goalie Olivia Causton, our team played extremely well all game. This was the teams first ever women’s field lacrosse game! They had to battle some adversity before the season started, as the league deemed their brand new @signature lacrosse sticks illegal for not being on the world approved list. Using brand new borrowed sticks for the first time proved to be the difference as our girls couldn’t find the back of the net but were very impressive with their defensive play. Standouts for the game were goalie Olivia Causton, defensive player Makinlee Johnston and offensive player Macie Svehla. Final score was 10-0 for Maple ridge. 4 of those goals are in protest due to the same illegal stick being used so we will call this one 6-0 unofficially Next post: Weekend Recap part 2

So proud of our u12 women’s team today. These girls battled hard all game against a more seasoned Maple Ridge squad. All 15 of our girls were playing in their very first field lacrosse game and represented the Hawks for the first time in league history. With an official final score of 6-0 for the Burrards, our Hawks showed they can hang with the best. The entire association is behind this team and we are looking forward to seeing what’s next!
