Soroptimist International of Central Alberta is so pleased to announce Melanie Willerth as the winner of our 2021 Ruby award- For Women helping Women. The Ruby ...award honours women, who through their professional or personal efforts, are making extraordinary differences in the lives of women or girls. Their work has had a significant impact, and also inspires and encourages other women. One year ago today, Melanie brought the Vagina Monologues back to Red Deer and with 21 local women, the sold out performance raised over $17,000 for agencies and organizations that help women affected by violence. The funds also provided two Live Your Dream Awards for single mothers who have returned to school and were affected by domestic violence. Melanie will received her award at our upcoming virtual International Women's Day event. As commonly as some of these types of phrases are used around kids, they can all be toxic and have the potential to lower his self-esteem rather than empower him and show that you support him, whoever he is.
