We're honoured to announce that Sammy will be guest lecturing for USC’s Dance and New Media class (University of Southern California), in the department that William Forsythe co-founded! Sammy will be touching on dance technology, in relationship to sociopolitical context and spirituality, as well as the visions behind Chimerik collective SammyUSC, (those of you who don’t know @troikadawn and @troikatronix_isadora do ...check it out!) Sammy: I just had a super wonderful reconnection with Dawn Marie Stoppiello, the Co-Artistic Director of the pioneer digital performance group Troika Ranch. It’s been over 10 years since we saw each other. When I met her and Mark Coniglio, it was working with them on the first new media dance/tech performance I’ve ever done in my life. It’s coming a full circle of sharing what we’ve been doing since then. I still have so so so much respect of what Dawn and Mark has done in the past decades, took so much risk to pioneer so many ways of exploring creative technology and performance, and the timelessness value of the the new media work, which is not easy to find. We also had a really juicy chat around the topic of new media performance, dance technology, Isadora, diversity/inclusion, the poetic art and commercialism and the profound lessons from the COVID time, meditation/spirituality. It affirms the whole process and growth of the deeper purpose for artists, and the kind of meaningful level we can connect together. I feel so happy for her students to get to expose to an amazing timeless thinker/creative soul like Dawn, and I am so grateful to be invited to speak for her class!
