Brand new Lund WC-14 boats at Bearberry (Warwick Lake) Outpost. They are awesome!
Some fresh moose tenderloin, cooked to perfection on granite slabs @ Warwick (Bearberry) last week
It's official, Red Lake in being evacuated. Stay safe everyone!
We all know how the June weather can change quickly up here, but WOW!
Red fire number #49, from Superior Airways float base just now. Stay safe!
Some portage lakes will be receiving new boats this summer. We are starting to fly them in
It was a Lunker clinic at Roderick Lake tonight. Numerous walleye between 22-27 inches. They were suspended on the main lake (north end); suspended at 30-feet over 60-feet. The Hummingbird finds them, the anchor feature on the Minn-Kota (GPS controlled),keeps you on location. What a fantastic evening of catching with the family!
We finally got out on the lake and did some catching on Roderick Lake tonight! The fishing was spectacular. Walleye on the menu tomorrow night . Hopefully we see everyone soon. Stay safe!
Not looking good for 2020 unfortunately...
2020 Update: Our plan, while the Canada/US border is closed; will involve undertaking continual improvements, while locations are vacant. We are retaining all staff positions and have retained contractors for this purpose. They will begin, as soon as Provincial restrictions permit. Once permitted, we will begin working through our long term "to-do" list. This will include building maintenance, as well as improvements to boat and motors. This rare oppertunity, of having all lo...cations vacant, will facilitate long term maintenance upgrades being competed, well ahead of schedule. We will make the best of this situation, and come out ahead. We will provide additional updates, as available. Stay safe, and hopefully we will see everyone soon! -Management
The Canadian government have stated the border will remain closed, until at least the end of May. Therefore we fully expect to lose the first two weeks of season, at minimum. Canada, unlike most other countries, has yet to peak. Our curve is still climbing. Ontario and Quebec are still struggling, in larger cities, to bring the curve under control. Hopefully an additional thirty days, will allow then oppertunity to do so. With any luck, we will also catch up to the curve shortly. -Management
With a fifteen minute test, this could even be a safe reality!
An ice report from Red Lake, cheers!
At Chimo Lodge, we are still holding out hope that this current situation with regard to Covid-19, will mitigate prior to the kick-off of our 2020 fishing season. We do however realize this situation is fluid, and ever changing. Therefore we have reviewed options for our guests to consider, should it come down to closed borders, and/or travel restrictions preventing this. Management have decided to follow the same protocol established last summer, for guests disrupted by fore...st fires . If border closures and/or travel restrictions prevent your scheduled travel, we can offer the following. We will push 2020 deposits forward into 2021, as we realize this situation is beyond anyone’s control. This will also further reserve the same week for your group in 2021, as was booked in 2020. As summer approaches, we will provide further updates as required. Keep good spirits, stay safe, healthy and warm. Hopefully we will see everyone soon, and enjoy a normal 2020 season! Cheers -Management
Still winter, but enjoying the great weather. Fishing has been great! Fresh lake trout and ribs on the open fire. Looking like it may be an early ice out this year, fingers crossed! See you all soon

in two weeks, we fully expect ALL outposts to be open, with exception of My, Wagin and Miller lakes. Fire hazard is now much lower. This week Northern Outposts Warwick, Culverson and Horby remain open, they were not near any active fires this summer. Cheers
New "Draft Floor Plan", of replacement cabins for Roderick Lake Lodge and Wagin Outpost. I think the new floor plans are great, and will be welcomed by all. They will include large extended decks, screened in.
I would like to thank the Ministry of Natural Resources, for their efforts, and continued efforts protecting us from wildfire. They truly have gone above and be...yond! The heroic efforts of their helicopter pilots, and the effective utilization of various levels of resources; required to orchestrate such an operation, can NOT be overstated. The OMNR evacuated a total of 10-guests to safety, via helicopter. The lives of these guests were at real risk. One cabin was destroyed within an hour of rescue, and the second was held at bay, 25-feet away; by MNR sprinklers. Outstanding! No lives were lost; directly due to the efforts of the local MNR organization. Everyone there played a role, somehow, regardless of their position, in this outcome. Thank you very much! It is always appreciated! Regardless of my connection to Superior Airways; I must also extend the EXACT same sentiments, to all staff. In total, through exhausting days, and next to no sleep, they have airlifted 110-ppl from wildfire, to safety. That's is from Tourist Camps alone. Not including First Nation communities. I haven't been able to keep count. They have worked tirelessly, as their civic duty to make this happen. Everyone from the person pumping fuel, to the pilot picking his way through smoke and weather, to the staff coordinating flights; made this possible. It is VERY much appreciated. Thank you! I don't think many people, fully understand what is going on out there. It isn't good, and it's stressing all resources to near breaking point. Thank you to everyone involved in protecting our community, and guests! It's appreciated! #omnr #firerangers #superiorairways
As an additional update all guests were safely evacuated as of 5:30pm last night. The staff at Chimo Lodge offices will begin contacting guests, that we anticipate will be be effected by local wildfires. This will occur on a priority basis, as resources are limited due to ongoing wildfires and our losses at Chimo Lodge and Outposts. If you have not yet been contacted, please refrain from contacting the office for additional information prior to July 15th, allowing us to con...centrate our resources on emergency priorities. We will contact all effected guests shortly. This process is already underway. This ongoing emergency has precluded us from providing additional information, updates and/or contacting upcoming guests up till now. Our first priority was the safety of all We have lost the main camp at Roderick Lake, and possibly three outposts. As an idea of where we are at, and how we will proceed, and to put minds at ease for 2020; we offer the following information. *All locations are debt free. *All locations are fully insured. *While we work through the insurance process, we will self-finance the rebuild, expediting this process. *We fully anticipate all locations rebuilt and ready for business opening day 2020. *A Pheonix WILL rise from these ashes. It is short term pain, but will provide a very long term gain. We are in a very strong, and secure position to move forward. As the sunsets in the west to close the day, we are secure in our knowledge that it will always inevitably rise again in the east, to once again open and adorn a new day! Every end, provides opportunity for a beginning. Thank you for your continued patience while we prioritize this situation! Chris LeBlanc
Roderick Lake Lodge was overrun by a forest fire last night. Everyone was safely evacuated, and have been safely returned to Red Lake. We plan to start construction, as soon as the fire is declared out. We will have multiple contractors on this project, to expedite completion. If all goes according to plan, Roderick Lake Lodge will be completely rebuilt for the 2020 season. This fire is currently 100,000 acres and growing. It is one of multiple fires in the area. All our Northwestern Outposts will also be closed, until further notice, due to fire hazard. Bearberry, Hornby and Culverson will remain open, but anticipate some delays upon departure. Due to existing risks to our outposts, additional posts will be significantly delayed, as well replies; while we focus on the current task at hand. Thank you!
Fishing Report: Apologies for the delayed updates. The 2019 season is off to an epic start. Late May and early June brought some challenging fishing, due to late ice out experienced again this year. This had fish displaced from typical spring structures, and the season was about two weeks behind. Beginning last week, numbers were up substantially in all outpost locations, as well as Roderick Lake. This week, larger numbers and sizes were the topic of discussion. Largest North...ern Pike for the week was from an outpost, measuring 44". The largest walleye of the week was again reported today, from a northern outpost, at 30". None of the fish were weighed, as the anglers priority was in returning them to the lake. This week numbers and sizes were the best, yet reported this season. Fish are still running shallow. Typical numbers we are hearing for walleye and northern are 4-8 feet. The depth for trout seems to be around the 45-foot mark, with one reported at 75-foot. Overall, a GREAT week!
