Regular hygiene appointments are so important to your oral health. We start by reviewing your medical history and asking about any changes in your health. Then we dive into the oral examination, where we check the condition of your teeth and gums. (Sometimes this may include a low-dose X-ray and an oral cancer examination, too.) The cleaning stage involves removing built-up plaque and calculus (tartar), as well as polishing and perhaps fluoride. We wrap things up by discussing your treatment plan going forward. We look forward to seeing you at your next hygiene appointment!
Regular hygiene appointments are essential to your child’s oral health. We start by reviewing your child’s medical history and asking about any changes in their health. Then we dive into the exam, where we check the condition and development of their teeth, gums and jaw. We will take X-rays as needed. Then we clean the teeth, removing tartar build-up, polishing and offering fluoride. Sometimes we’ll apply a sealant which is a thin coating that is placed on the teeth to protec...t them from cavities. We’ll explain every step of the appointment to your child and how it relates to their dental health. We’ll educate them on proper brushing and flossing techniques, as well as how to choose tooth-friendly snacks. We’ll finish up by discussing your child’s treatment plan and answering any questions. We do this in a calm and peaceful environment to benefit you and your child. We look forward to seeing you both at your child’s next hygiene appointment!
Cheese is an excellent between-meal snack as it stimulates saliva production and increases the pH levels in your mouth, reducing the risk of developing cavities. It is also rather delicious!
Dental restorations come in many shapes and sizes to repair decayed or fractured teeth. Fillings are used to repair smaller areas of decay while larger areas may be addressed with an inlay or an onlay. Crowns are used when there is a large amount of decay or fractures. If the tooth cannot be saved then an implant-retained crown may be used.
The second molars are usually the last of the baby teeth to grow in - and the last to fall out! Kids often don’t lose their second molars until they’re 11 to 13 years old.

Therapeutic mouthwashes use antimicrobial ingredients to kill the bacteria that can cause plaque, gingivitis, bad breath, and tooth decay. Depending on the ingredients, these mouthwashes are available over the counter or by prescription. Mouthwashes without these antimicrobial ingredients are considered to be cosmetic. They’re useful for freshening breath, but don’t reduce your risk of cavities or gum disease.
If you’ve ever wondered why the roof of your mouth has such an interesting texture, we’re here to share the hard (and soft) truth.

Night guards can protect your teeth while you're sleeping. Jaw pain, clicking noises or headaches in the morning might mean that you are grinding your teeth during the night. This can cause excessive wear and tear, including chipping or cracking. Ask us about a custom night guard to protect your teeth. (403) 258-3911
We are closed today to remember all those who made sacrifices for Canada lest we forget.
When a child loses a primary tooth prematurely, it’s important to see us. Primary teeth play an essential role in the alignment of permanent teeth. If a child loses a tooth too early, a permanent tooth may erupt before it’s ready to fill the space. This might cause problems later on if it’s not the right tooth for the space. We can assess the growth and, in some cases, suggest the use of a space maintainer until the adult teeth are ready to erupt.
Dental implants allow you to eat comfortably, just like you had a full set of natural teeth. No more worrying about a slipping denture when you bite, or only being able to chew foods if they’re cut into tiny bites. Enjoy meals with your loved ones again. Learn more about dental implants on our website.
Dental checkups are an essential part of maintaining good oral health. First, we remove stains and build-up on teeth above and below the gumline. Then we look for signs of tooth decay and gum disease, check the bite and jaw for problems, evaluate any new risk factors such as a change in medication, conduct an oral cancer screening, assess problem areas, and make recommendations for further treatment. Sometimes this involves taking a closer look with a dental X-ray. We also demonstrate proper cleaning techniques or provide tips to help patients reach any problem areas when brushing and flossing at home. Call us today to book a dental checkup (403) 258-3911!
Happy Halloween! We're delighted to see all the vampires, ghosts and goblins today!
For big kids, teens, and adults, avoid using as much toothpaste as you see in an ad! Too much foam can trigger you to stop brushing before the two minutes are up since you’ll need to spit sooner. Toothpaste the size of a pea should be sufficient to get enough foam to thoroughly clean your mouth.
Floss picks come in a variety of sizes and are easy to use one-handed. While they can’t be wrapped around the whole tooth surface, they’re useful for people with small mouths or dexterity issues, children who can’t manage a string of floss, or if you’re flossing for someone else.
Children’s permanent teeth grow in with three little bumps on the tooth called mamelons. These are normal and wear down over time, which is why most adults don’t have these bumps. Feel free to ask us questions about mamelons or tooth development at your next appointment.
