Chipperfield Mobile Physiotherapy 29.01.2021

I don't know what physio you've had in the past, but let me tell you, our practitioners make rehab FUN! In this session we're working with a client who played badminton 3 times a week before her stroke 3 months ago! She's made some mindblowing progress since then At the end of a recent session, Julie and her hit the birdie around and we saw an incredible rally with some tight footwork around the forecourt and some pretty decent balks and flicks (badminton termi...nology is weird y'all) Practicing her footwork as if on the court, she mimicked reaching forward for drop shots (thus lunging forwards and sideways onto her right leg but also needing to extend to return back up). They also reviewed stepping backward with just the right foot as if to prepare for an overhead clearing shot. There are so many skills that go into a sport like badminton! Hand-eye coordination Motor control Fast reflexes Balance and trunk stability Visual perception Rhythm and timing Our client was so happy to be touching a racket again that she's going practice with her 9-year-old grandson daily! OG Neuro PT in da houseeeeeeee Julie lives and breaths the adage that "any brain can change for the better, at any time, at any age". And there is no better example of this than her client's success! Whether she is working with post-stroke clients, Parkinson's clients, or traumatic brain injuries, she believes that there is always hope & that progress can always be made! Neuroplasticity FTW

I HAVE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS ALL WEEK! This series started as a way to introduce some solid, evidence-based tips to help you deal with pain (whether acute or chronic). Also I'm obsessed with The Mandolorian so this seemed like the perfect combo ANYWAYS... What was one of the biggest conclusions you ask? basically, pain is weird. straight up, it's a complex experience that is thoroughly tuned by your brain. The results are often strange and counter-intuitive, like quantum physics, but the science is clear: every painful sensation is 100% Brain Made, and there is no pain without the . And while we may not control our brains, we do have considerable indirect leverage. We can’t micromanage every sensation, but we can tinker on a large scale. We can change the context and direct our experience of life on a large scale. Each part of this series will include two tips to help you manage your pain (we have 4 parts to share!). And if you're not in pain, save this post just in case you needs these tips in the future! may the force be with you See more

I have to admit, it never gets old hearing "WHAT?! You mean your physio comes to me?!" So many people out there don't know that mobile therapy exists! And in most cases, it can be the best option for you. For example, these are all extremely good reasons to choose mobile therapy: if you're recovering from surgery... if you're immobile if you have extremely bad back pain if you want to avoid traffic if you're in a care home if you want to limit your time in public places due to COVID The list could go on & on, but I'll spare you today ANYWAYS, we've also including a few more common questions we get in this post! Feel good moment of the week!!! Our client sent us this photo that captured such a beautiful moment. Our client (Kathryn) had a stroke while pregnant with little Isla, who is now nearly 3 years old. This photo captures the FIRST time that Isla is able to hold her Mom’s hand We are using Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation or NMES to increase activity to that left side (previously flaccid, then became high tone, now much improved with PT and Botox). ... NMES uses a device that sends electrical impulses to nerves. This input causes muscles to contract. The electrical stimulation can increase strength and range of motion, and offset the effects of disuse. It is often used to re-train or re-educate a muscle to function and to build strength after a surgery or period of disuse. Kathryn is now able to actively extended the wrist herself! The NMES is assisting while Kathryn actively extends the wrist and fingers herself, which allowed Isla to grab onto the pinky! Kathryn also wrote us a very sweet testimonial the other day, saying "I could not recommend working with Julie any more. Her expertise and passion for helping her clients recover and achieve their goals is unmatched. In my time working with her, I have seen success that I was previously told was close to impossible." Gosh, just warms my heart!! See more

Operations Manager @kpgrill here Here's a little FACT vs FICTION when it comes to physiotherapy! I hear many of these myths while chatting to clients ... Swipe to see a few A PT is the same as a Chiro or massage therapist If I can just do the exercises I don't need a PT PT's only see athletes! PT's only see people who are in pain or after surgery I can't do any of my normal activities while I attend PT . I need a doctor's referral to come to PT Do you have any misconceptions about PT? Our goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and welcome in the realm of rehabilitation and wellness. How many times have you been in the presence of a practitioner who doesn't listen to you? Following up on our post the other day, we've noticed that many of our clients avoid the gym because they are unsure how to use the equipment or they don't know what a strength building or conditioning routine should look like. That's totally normal! Unfortunately, we're not often taught this in school (because dodgeball is WAAAAY more important than the ability to build & maintain strength, flexibility, and endurance ) If this sounds like you, then this is where kinesiolog...ists come in! Think of personal trainers - and now LEVEL UP. Kinesiologists have an in-depth understanding of human anatomy and movement. They are able to structure rehab and training programs for both healthy individuals and those who are recovering from an injury. While gyms might be out of the question for the foreseeable future, our mobile Kinesiologist can work with you at home, in a park, or at multiple care homes across the Lower Mainland. LUCKY YOU! Swipe to read a little more about what kinesiologists do, and how they can help you build the most efficient, personalized training program for you

We've said it before and we'll say it again If you are rehabilitating from a significant cardiovascular event, such as a heart attack, stroke. or have chronic health conditions that may complicate recovery from an injury or illness, getting additional physiotherapy from hospitals might be tricky - as Harpreet found Perhaps your recovery and rehabilitation is time-sensitive due to obligation at work or home. Supplementing your in-hospital PT with a mobile PT progra...m can speed up your recovery. This can go a long way toward minimizing the time it takes to get back on your feet. Of course, COVID has changed some of these protocols, but generally, our physiotherapists can see clients at VGH, Holy Family Hospital, St. Paul's, BC Women's Hospital, Mount Saint Joseph, Burnaby Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital & Lions Gate Hospital Click the link in bio to book your mobile session today See more

Happy Monday y'all! Today we wanted to share more behind the scenes of an in-home rehab session. This client came to us after a motor vehicle accident and is working to heal after his left knee, left ankle and left tibia were replaced ... One of his goals at his first assessment was to ride his indoor bike! I'd say we're getting pretty close to that We wanted to showcase this video because we don't often see this side of rehab - the slow, boring, repetitive (& often painful) movements that need to happen to retrain your body & mind. Persistence & consistency are in the therapy world (and let's be honest, in life), so even though our client only got a few rotations today, these small victories deserve to be celebrated! If you're feeling stuck or discouraged today - with your therapy journey or your own personal development, just remember that those little things that seem insignificant in the moment, yield very big results when compounded over time See more

How many times have you thought "I should really book that appointment with my physio/chiro/coach/therapist"? If you're living in pain (emotionally, physically, mentally) and trying to distract yourself from it, this is a reminder that while booking that first appointment may feel scary, or selfish, or unnecessary... the healing that will come from putting yourself first and taking control of your pain is % worth the initial discomfort. So take that first step! Your healing and your well-being are worth it!
