Let’s talk Nutrition today! - As a Chiropractor, I not only work with patients on decreasing their pain, improving mobility/flexibility, optimizing their physical health, but I also assess their nutrition and vitamin/mineral intake to help in overall health maintenance and optimization! So let’s talk about some easy ways/changes to help you decrease your daily calories! (*numbers are approximate) 1 - Swap your Large drink for a Medium! Saves 70 calories... 2 - Swap ONE cup of pretzels for TWO cups of popcorn ! Saves 77 calories 3 - Swap Diet Soda for Sparkling Water ! Add some / / for a great taste! Saves 85+ calories 4 - Drink water first! Before a meal or when you feel hungry, drink some water to cut down about 100 calories and feel full faster! 5 - Swap your Rice for Cauliflower Rice! Saves 160 calories (1/2 rice + 1/2 cauli rice saves 80 calories too!) 7 - Swap 2 tbsps sour cream for 2 tbsps of plain greek yogurt in any recipe to save 35 calories! 8 - Swap a candy/chocolate bar for chocolate-covered peanuts ! Saves 50+ calories 9 - Swap your nut butter for peanut butter powder in your shakes/baked goodies! It will taste just as great while saving you 70+ calories! - Swap a classic sandwich for an open faced sandwich! Lose the top piece of bread to save 70+ calories (depending on the type of bread you use - or use a whole wheat wrap instead!) 11 - Swap your 3 slices of bacon for 1 cup of berries ! This can save you 170+ calories/fat while increasing your antioxidants! 12 - Swap 1/2 of your portion of pasta by tossing in 1/2 cup of veggies instead to save 100+ calories and get some extra fibre/vitamins/micronutrients! 13 - Swap sugary flavours for spices in your coffee ! Instead of syrups, add in extra cinnamon/nutmeg/vanilla extract to save 140+ calories! 14 - Limit your salad toppings! A big salad can be very healthy, but not if you start adding crumbles, , caramelized nuts, dried fruit, croutons, and dressings! Try to add 1 or 2 extra toppings to your salads to limit the extra calories or add avocado or plain nuts for some good fats! Enjoy!

Tips to Rest Your Eyes From Technology/Devices! With most of us working from home these days, we are all spending more time in front of a device, whether it is your phone, tablet, laptop, monitor or multiple screens! Here are a few tips to give your eyes a rest! 1 - Follow the 20 Rule! - Every 20 minutes, for 20 seconds, look at something else 20 feet away from you! Even better, take the time to stand up as you are doing this! Doing this will give your eyes the ti...me to rest and refocus at a distance, leading to less eyestrain at the end of your day. 2 - Switch Your Phone Display to Greyscale! - This helps your eyes by putting less strain on them as they do not have to focus on a lot of colours! (On an iPhone you can make that change by going to your settings > search Colour Filters > toggle the Colour Filter button ON > check off the Greyscale feature 3 - Reduce (or Turn Off) Your Notifications! - The sound of notifications will always get you, especially if it is a work phone! Even if your intention is to set the device down, notifications ringing will usually mean you look at the device, which will really add up the minutes your eyes are straining looking at a screen. If turning off your notifications is not an option, take a minute to go through all of your apps and see how many notifications you can turn off (do you really need your food delivery app notifications at all times??) Try to keep it to the bare minimum to reduce the temptation to stay on your phone! 4 - Blink More! - Did you know that we are using a device, we actually tend to blink less than when doing anything not requiring a device! This causes an increase in that sandy, gritty feeling associated with dry eyes. Blinking frequently will keep the eyes more lubricated! The use of an over-the-counter Visine or other artificial tear product can reduce the dry eye sensation. 5 - Limit Device Use to 1-2 Hours Before Bedtime! - The blue light our devices emit will actually disrupt our Circadian rhythm, the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle! Too much blue light before bed can make it a lot tougher to fall asleep! Contact me for more info!

***POSTURE*** This is a word I talk about constantly as a small change in your posture can lead to so many significant improvements in a person’s life! Especially now with this pandemic, the new modified phase 2 rules, the colder weather coming and being stuck indoors more, the amount of movement we can give our bodies will become very important! ... What are some things you can do to move your body to improve your posture? 1- Change your workspace setup to make it more ergonomic for your body (send me a DM if you want more info on this and I can help each person individually with the space they are working with) 2- Standing instead of sitting at your desk for part of the day, switch it up throughout the day, stand/walk around when you are on the phone 3- Doing 10 minutes of stretching multiple times per day, start with the neck and upper body and move down to the low back and legs for a full body stretch throughout the day! 4 - Get a little workout done, there are so many great live or pre-recorded classes are out there these days! (Send me a DM if you want some suggestions) 5- Breathe! Get some deep belly breathing in to retrain your diaphragm and core muscles to allow them to support your spine and posture! (Send a DM to learn more!) 6- Go out for a walk, get some fresh air, to reset the mind and body! 7- Get an adjustment! This is one of the best and quickest ways to re-align your body and improve posture (while getting rid of aches and pains, allowing for social interaction in a safe space and leaving the office in a better mood and smiling)! The list keeps going, if you want more tips and tricks, feel free to send me a DM! #posture #sitstraight #standstraight #chiropractic #takecareofyourspine #youonlygetone #tipsandtricks #health #wellness #chiroforlife #liveyourbestlife #giftofhealth

Orthotics! One of the best additions that your shoes could ever have! Why you ask? Your feet have 26 bones , 33 joints & more than 100 muscles , tendons and ligaments that ALL have to work together in sync for proper biomechanics! Most people’s feet are out of sync, leading to a multitude of problems - starting from foot pain, to knee, hip, low back, to many other imbalances and pains ! With the end of the year coming soon , a pair of orthotics might be covered by your insurance company!
