I volunteer helping lost dogs in Alberta. Due to COVID-19 *Some tips may not apply* Please file a lost dog report with local animal shelter & surrounding shelte...rs, as a dog may be picked up & brought to another shelter. Most animal shelters allow 3 days (may vary) for owner to claim, 10 days if microchipped. If microchipped, please contact company to make sure contact information is up to date. List of Animal Rescues/Animal Control/Shelters/24-7 Emergency Vets/ Pet Services/etc.. across Canada. https://savearescue.org/orgsandrescues/listing **TYPE IN CITY OR POSTAL CODE TO VIEW CANADIAN LISTINGS** Post flyers ASAP as they help bring awareness 24-7. In area/surrounding area missing & area of any confirmed sightings. Given permission, post flyers at places many people frequent in area/surrounding area missing - i.e: local vets/gas stations/animal feed stores/equine services/grocery stores/coffee shops/arena/parks (including dog parks) kennels/library/community centres/gym/variety store/pet stores/vets/groomers. A suggestion, contact local animal shelter & inquire if they'd post flyer on main page to help bring awareness. TAPE FLYER ON VEHICLE. Keep a record of where you've posted flyers. **EDIT ANY EXISTING FACEBOOK POSTS: ONE HAS THE OPTION TO EDIT A POST BY CLICKING ON 3 DOTS ... THAT APPEAR TO THE RIGHT OF POST TO INCLUDE RELEVANT INFO.. I.E. NEAREST CROSSROADS MISSING/TOWN/CITY/CONTACT # (FOR SIGHTINGS). A SUGGESTION, DO NOT MENTION PET ISN'T MICROCHIPPED/NEUTERED OR SPAYED, OR IS PREGNANT AS NOT EVERYONE LOOKING FOR YOUR PET HAS GOOD INTENTIONS. PLEASE DO NOT POST SIGHTINGS ONLINE, as this invites many people to frequent area, which may cause a lost dog that may be in Survival Mode: https://www.buddhadogrescueandrecovery.com/p/survival-mode https://holidaybarn.com/blog/dog-survival-mode/ to run in fear, possibly into danger and/or leave area of sighting where a food station or live trap has been set, as well, some people may not have good intentions. Unfortunately, there are PET THIEVES. When a dog enters Survival mode.. they view all PEOPLE as PREDATORS. Create a private chat group for those searching on the ground where sightings can be safely posted/not to be shared. POST FLYERS IN AREA SEEN. Check CRAIGSLIST/KIJIJI FOR SALE ADS. A suggestion: Do not offer a reward.. https://lostdogsofamerica.org/we-dont-recommend-offering-a/ DO NOT CALL OUT TO/APPROACH A LOST DOG. VIEW VIDEO ON HOW TO SAFELY SECURE A LOST DOG: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmiZzB643is&t=5s *Lost Dogs usually (not always) appear very early AM/late PM, may seek a water source/shelter nearby. Notify local postal outlets. Post in local facebook lost pet groups/pages.. including buy & sell groups in area/surrounding areas, to help bring awareness. Not everyone has a facebook account, posting a Kijiji ad may be helpful. Check for sale ads as well. **Depending on location missing, SNARES are a DANGER TO A LOST DOG** Consider joining these LOST PET FACEBOOK GROUPS: Lost Pets in Alberta, Canada https://www.facebook.com/groups/148890458470671/?ref=group_header Alberta Missing Dogs https://www.facebook.com/groups/151582018343213/?ref=nf_target&fref=nf MISSING/FOUND ANIMALS ALBERTA CANADA https://www.facebook.com/groups/514582838570666/?ref=group_header Alberta's Lost & Found Pet Network https://www.facebook.com/groups/732399003544733/?ref=group_header Red Deer & Area Search/Rescue https://www.facebook.com/groups/451952208591348/?ref=group_browse STOLEN, MISSING PETS IN AB https://www.facebook.com/groups/940943059285491 ****WHEN A SIGHTING IS REPORTED: INQUIRE: DATE/TIME/LOCATION & DIRECTION OF TRAVEL, NOTIFY LOCAL ANIMAL CONTROL/DOG TRACKER (IF ONE IS ASSISTING) Tips via Kim Taylor (dog tracker) : What to do if you lose a dog while camping or hiking in unfamiliar areas. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10156476211533112&id=628543111 Helpful tips: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10154993237183112&id=628543111 Dog tracker/trapper : https://www.facebook.com/K9Recovery/ Sharing comment per Dog tracking Service- Please note: altho based out of Calgary area, I do travel and service any area in which deemed safe for myself as well as anyone involved with K9 Recovery on that search, not limited to home location. Please Light The Way and Guide Them Home ! May all our lights, thoughts & prayers guide all missing pets home tonight. May all the warmth and wishes we send ton...ight reach those alone, abused and suffering, so they may know they are not alone and we are here. May all the love and loyalty reach those who will not be coming home again, we have not and will not forget them. May all our loyalty and determination reach the world so it may know we will never give up not till the last one is home and theft, abuse and exploitation no longer exist. Please light your candle:
