Worried about out-living your retirement savings

There is no question that many Canadian families are living beyond their means. Wants have become needs and the materialistic world is distracting us from meaningful living. Imagine living a life free from debt. Yes, you may not have that new car every 5 years, or your kids may not have the newest gaming console, or each with their own iPhone. But what you have in return is piece of mind. And what is most surprising is that once you commit to spending less and reevaluating y...our wants and needs. You will quickly find out that those wants don't make you any happier in the end. I often think of my own childhood and learning the value of money. My mom, was a single mother, working so hard to bring money home for our family. Fortunately, I never saw her receiving credit card bills. She only had a chequing account and was debt free. To achieve this there were sacrifices, choices made. For example, sometimes my siblings and I had to share things. I remember once, getting a pair of roller skates and because my brother and I had the same size feet, we shared one pair. But funny enough I have such great memories of us each strapped into one skate, and racing each other down the street. Having only one pair just made us get creative and work together.
