Hey everyone! Wanted to firstly say thank you for all your support and love through this difficult time. It is a really emotional time. We loved having our guests enjoy their food, and the laughs and joy that use to sound loudly throughout the restaurant. It’s difficult to see this happy and joyful place so empty. Well today is my birthday and in this new world I’m reflecting. A year ago we opened our dream @chopandwop I found this video of me opening the door for the first time after I got the keys. It was such a long road to get to that point. I came to Canada when I was 10. And watched everyone around me work so hard in construction and cleaning jobs. I knew I had to work really hard to change things for myself and my family. I worked for Walmart Canada Walmart for 20 years. ...My last role being Director of Operations for Canada. Making the company millions I had a safe and well paying job. I did the impossible as a young immigrant. That was until I got a new boss who was homophobic and I was let go after 20 years and a very successful career just because I was gay. Companies like Walmart are never held accountable for their actions they are so large and one voice quickly gets silenced by threats. It took me months of not getting out of bed and being ashamed of what happened. Even though I can’t control being gay. It is simply who I am. I finally pulled myself up and decided I would open our dream restaurant. It seemed impossible but we never gave up. The day I opened this door for the first time I was overwhelmed and grateful. Through this tough time our dreams are challenged again but it’s amazing to see everyone support. People are finally coming together and supporting and lifting each other up. What an interesting unintended consequence of Covid-19. We will of course keep fighting and pushing our dream forward. I want to thank everyone who has supported us through all this. Without you we would not have made it this far. And to everyone I want to say. Who you are is who you are meant to be. God doesn’t make mistakes and he definitely didn’t make a mistake when he made you. Don’t ever let anyone (even the worlds largest companies) make you feel like you are not exactly who you are suppose to be. Love yourself and speak out loudly.
