If I have any Facebook friends who believe the tragic death of thousands of Ottoman Armenians during WWI constituted genocide, these indiscriminate attacks by Armenians on Azerbaijani civilians should be a wake up call. Attacks of Armenian terror organizations around the world in the 80s, killing Turkish diplomats and other civilians should have been a wake up call. There was a long history of revolts, terror attacks by Armenians before the tragic events of 1915 happened. The... forced removal of Armenians from war zones and the tragic death of thousands during the course of such action wasn’t an unprovoked response by the Ottomans. Now Armenians are showing their aggression and ruthlessness again. If Azerbaijan had nukes and after these cowardly attacks on civilians, they bombed Yerevan and killed thousands of Armenians, would that be genocide? After all that’s what US did in WW2. I call the part of the world where my home country is, the old continent . Whether it’s Kurds, Armenians, Persians, Turks etc. different ethnic groups ruled over the same piece of territory (in and around Eastern Turkey and Caucuses) for different parts of the history. Unilaterally claiming one piece of land belongs to you because you ruled there at some point of history, not respecting U.N. Resolutions and international law will cause nothing but destruction. Making a historical claim on a piece of land and illegally occupying it is NOT acceptable in this day and age. Azerbaijan government, fed up with 30 years of peace talks that led nowhere (actually worse, it led to an Armenian PM who threw all past agreements down the drain) is not the one to blame in this conflict. They are trying to get what belongs to their country and send a million internally displaced Azerbaijanis back to their homes. I am sure Armenia, who is illegally occupying Azerbaijan territory for over 30 years, is resorting to these heinous attacks to draw Azerbaijan to respond the same way, with hopes that Aliyev will retaliate and hit Armenian cities (so they can draw Russia in to the conflict). I hope, despite all these attacks, our friends in Azerbaijan will stand resolute and reject hate. Continue to let the world know that the future you envision in Karabakh is one where different ethnic and religious groups live side by side in peace. We are doing it just fine in Canada. Why not demand the same for that part of the world? And I hope government of Canada and other Western governments realize the double standards in their rhetoric and policies. Armenia is the aggressor here. They have always been the one. See more
