I was just bending over to tie my shoes and I had instant back pain I don’t get it doc I was just vacuuming something I do all the time I must be getting old I hear similar phrases from patients on a very regular basis. It is not that your back is weak or that you are getting old; there are many components that have led up to this event.... Pain is multidimensional. People don’t realize that stressors whether it be emotional or physical stress play a large toll on the body. There are many factors that played a roll in the lead up to that injury. Factors such as: the amount of sleep you got the night before; eating poorly causing an increase in inflammation; emotional stress; physical stress and catastrophizing the incident can all influence your pain level. It is always important to take care of your own body. Of course there are certain exercises that can help combat the physical stressors, but dealing with the emotional stressors is just as important. Often times I will use acupuncture to help people with this problem, but at the end of the day people need to find ways to de-stress themselves. Here are a few healthy ways to aid in your stress levels: - Go for a walk - Listen to music - Breathing techniques - Yoga - Workout This is a picture of the Steelers vs Cowboys game. Doing things I love, like watching live sport events, is a huge de-stressor in my life. Through this busy holiday season, try to find a way to de-stress yourself.
Uxbridge Santa Claus Parade is tomorrow, starting at 11am. Parade route - Starts at the corner of Brock St. & Centre Rd. then heads east on Brock St. through the town to Nellkydd Lane & finishes at Uxbridge Secondary School. The benefits of walking are endless. Not only is it beautiful this time of year but our heart needs help pumping the blood to various areas of our bodies. Through simple daily movements such as a quick 30 minute walk, we can reap benefits of pumping extra blood to our joints, muscles, and brain. This is the reason as to why we may feel happier, more energetic, or just unexplainably better after a walk especially outside during this time of year. This photo was taken at the Eldred King Woodlands, just north of Ballantrae.
One problem I frequently see is that people tend to jump into sports too quickly, injure themselves, and never want to play again. In today's society people tend to strive for the end product but do not understand the importance of buildings a tolerance that your body can handle. In this picture I am seen tackling a player from the Brampton Beavers rugby club. This is the end product - but there was weeks of training needed to get to this level.
