Today is World Children’s Day, a day to remember the commitment made by the United Nations in 1991 to ensure that all children are treated with dignity and respect. Christian Horizons provides education, nutrition and opportunity for children of all abilities, in countries throughout the world. Thanks to all who rode on the weekend and who are continuing to fundraise till the end of October.
We have been in touch with our leaders in #Guatemala and #Nicaragua. They are thankful that as of now our people are well. The community of El Zapitillo (where #ChristianHorizonsGlobal has a preschool, child sponsorship and church based nutrition program) is cut off by flooding and no one can get in or out... Ride for Refuge 2020 has come to an end and what an amazing job the Christian Horizons teams did again this year! Although the Ride looked very different in thi...s unique year than in the past, participants still managed to successfully fundraise through their chosen freestyle activities! We had 28 teams participating across the organization and together we fundraised $57, 721. Congratulations to you all! We appreciate everyone’s efforts. Whether you biked, kayaked, knit or danced for Refuge we hope you had an amazing time doing it. All funds raised for Christian Horizons will go towards helping those who experience disabilities both here in Canada and around the world in countries like Haiti, Guatemala and Ethiopia. Once again, thank you to everyone who participated!
Over the weekend we had a big jump in Ride for Refuge fundraising for Christian Horizons. We now have 29 teams participating and have raised $49, 104. That is a...mazing! We didn’t get a chance to meet at the RIDE locations to walk or bike together this year but we are excited to see how teams are engaging in Freestyle activities, whenever and however they can, until October 30th. Troy and Greg formed team Gizli Takim -Arkadaslarimiz Için in the South District this year. They hadn’t thought much about the Ride for Refuge until they were approached to start a team in September and couldn’t say no to the opportunity to participate again. Troy and Greg just happen to be 6-year veterans of the Ride for Refuge. Troy recounts, our quickly put together team of two did our ride a couple of Saturday’s ago. We started with a beautiful morning ride out in the country, followed by a great lunch together. We appreciate your efforts and thank you Troy and Greg for your leadership in #Ride20.

Happy Ethiopian New Year! Here is a devotional shared today by Mark Wallace https://www.facebook.com//vb.37490464252/858668871616549/
COVID-19 lockdown has been difficult for everyone but Musa, who has mobility issues and is the only breadwinner for his family, was particularly hard hit till Christian Horizons Global came to his rescue. Due to COVID-19, in March 2020 a state of emergency was declared in Ethiopia. Musa faced multiple financial challenges as he did not have an income to pay his rent or feed his family. At this time, Christian Horizon came to his rescue, and he received relief from the nutriti...on fund. He said This is God! who provided this Now this is enough for us (his family) for the next three months. Musa lost his income when the market he sold socks, handkerchiefs, soaps, biscuits, candies, and other small items at, was moved to a different location which was not accessible. Do you want to help others like Musa? Let us come together and ensure that individuals with disabilities are well supported during COVID-19 and beyond. Send your gift to the COVID-19 nutrition fund by clicking on the link below: https://www.christian-horizons.org/covid-global# Musa believes that God heard his prayers and showed mercy for his young kids. Musa appreciates his leaders and Christian Horizons Ethiopia for fulfilling the will of God by giving his family hope in a time of vulnerability.
Granma ‘Mulu Gemeda’ lives with her grandson in Arsi Robe, Ethiopia. She doesn’t exactly know how old she is (which is very common among the older generations in Ethiopia). Her neighbours guess she is over the age of 80. She’s been raising her grandson since he was a baby because her daughter passed away while giving birth. Now, he’s a teenager and goes to school. After school, he used to sell sugarcane to make money to support him and Granma but due to COVID-19 people aren’...t buying sugarcane like before. Receiving the nutrition fund has been a great blessing for Granma Mulu and her grandson who aren’t able to work right now to buy food for themselves. Please give to help Mulu and others https://www.christian-horizons.org/covid-global#

Mark posted a devotional video today in part based on conversations with our team in Guatemala.
In El Zap Guatemala a student has a physically distanced tutoring session. Most of our inclusive education programs have moved to some sort of distance education. We are grateful for our dedicated teachers who are preparing work for the students to take home.
Sully and the team are marking students work they have done at home. Distance isn't stopping the learning.
COVID-19 hits the poor and the medically fragile - the families we serve around the world - the hardest. Christian Horizons Global has put into place a COVID-1...9 Nutrition Response fund. Your generous gift of $75 gives a vulnerable family the food and hygiene supplies they need for a full month. $150 provides this same support for two families. Mark led the devotional thought for the Chirstian Horizons page today.
After a few seconds of technical difficulty I had a nice conversation with Elsa in Haiti. She gives us an update on what is happening with CH Global in Haiti.
