Celebrate Christmas with spiritual sense Christmas day will be here soon, and millions of people are scurrying in many different directions preparing for its arrival. If you’re tempted to get caught up into the hustle and bustle that often attends holiday celebrations, perhaps stop for a moment and remember that the real purpose of Christmas is not to indulge the senses, but to celebrate the gift of Spirit in the form of Christ which is here to save us from the pains and plea...sures of the senses. Christmas time is not intended to be a party of material sense but a celebration of spiritual sense! Spiritual sense is what keeps us connected to Christ and experiencing the saving power of Truth and Love at work in our life. Mary Baker Eddy wrote, I celebrate Christmas with my soul, my spiritual sense, and so commemorate the entrance into human understanding of the Christ conceived of Spirit, of God and not of a woman as the birth of Truth, the dawn of divine Love breaking upon the gloom of matter and evil with the glory of infinite being (Miscellany, p. 262). True Christmas is a time of peace, equanimity, dominion, calm, quiet with God, inspiration from on high, Christ-healing and boundless love. Let the Spirit of God, rather than the spirit of the world, guide your preparations this year, and fill each day with the peace of God that signifies the real reason for the season.

We must hold on stronger to Truth than error is trying to hold on to us. Hold on tight and don’t let go!

You and God are one, like a circle is round. There is no separation between you and God. Like water is wet, you are as spiritual as your Maker, and this is an unchangeable, undeniable, and unstoppable fact of your being. The suggestion of a resisting power is a lie that a power exists apart from God. But there is only one power, the power of God, good, and it is working on your behalf this moment giving you everything you need to be healthy and well. God knows no resistance. ...God gets what God wants. God knows only success! God is irresistible! Like the earth is going to turn in its orbit no matter how hard one might run in the other direction and try to make it reverse, God is going to keep loving you and loving you and loving you and ensuring you have everything you need to be free. This love is going to happen no matter what, and there isn’t anything that is going to step in between you and this love and prevent you from being blessed by it. There is no resistance to your prayers! God hears them and answers them. Put any doubting material sense aside and let the blessings roll in. The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord will answer my prayer (Psalm 6:9, NLT).

What to do if others speak evil of you?! If you ever have someone leave a message on your phone, email you, send a letter, or tell you to your face that you are a horrible person followed by a list of all the reasons why you are a horrible person, when you are not a horrible person at all, don’t be impressed! Every human has faults to overcome, but no matter, a wholesale spouting of vindictiveness, hatred and self-righteous criticism is never justified. It’s a form of insanit...y and needs to be treated as such. Mary Baker Eddy wisely wrote, Speak the truth to every form of error (Science and Health, p. 418). When error is spoken, identify it correctlyas error! Don’t give it the weight of truth. Don’t fear it. Don’t get upset about it. Don’t be overwhelmed by it. Immediately correct it in your thought and see it as error. The evil-speaker may not appreciate the good you embody and reflect, but God does, and that is enough. What is true between you and God prevails and has the final say. All the good you live speaks for itself and roars much louder and has far greater impression than any erroneous point of view stemming from suspect motives. Your good reputation, hard-earned and upstanding status, moral standing, and integrity are indestructible. No amount of evil speaking can ever taint them or take them away. They are backed by God and will prevail. Evil is what falls away, never the good.

Spiritual Sense Is An Inspired Sense! Material sense is depressing. Spiritual sense is inspiring. To stay inspired, stay focused on the realities of Spirit. Stick with Spirit and triumph over trials Count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. ~ James, 1:2-4, RSV... One might read this verse from the point of view that James is telling his readers to Toughen up and endure whatever trials come your way. Suffering is part of life and we should learn to live with it. Be steadfast. Be tough and don’t complain! But I see a much deeper and healing spiritual message in this passage. His last words, be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing, are telling. From my understanding of Christian Science, I might reword that phrase to read, see yourself as perfect and complete in God’s image, where there is no lack, where there is no trial to hurt or harm you. Every trial is an opportunity to learn something more about God. As our understanding of God grows, we see that there isn’t anything of the so-called mortal world that can threaten us. We are always safe in Spirit. Steadfast faith, is about knowing our reality in Spirit, where there is no lack. When we know Life in Spirit, we have the understanding and steadfast faith we need to triumph over trials.
