Yesterday I was honoured to be a second shooter with Nelson Manning’s video crew for the upcoming Wicihitowin Conference @wicihitowinyxe . This is the Survivor’s Circle, where residential school survivors came together to share their stories. I don’t feel I can do them justice by repeating them here, as they are not my stories to tell, but if the video is posted later I will share a link. I will say this, though: knowing the details, intellectually, is not the same as hearin...g and emotionally witnessing these stories first hand. I went home to my babies who are just turned seven and almost three and I hugged them very tightly last night. The other thing I was asked to consider is the importance of ceremony, of purposefully slowing down. Mistakes, they said, were made by taking short cuts, by being in a hurry. Take time to appreciate what is around you, and to travel clockwise, even if it is the long way around. Miigwetch.
