I was SO proud of my artists last night!! Learning to let go of control and let the paint do its thing is counterintuitive for someone who has never done watercolour. But everyone last night was brave and listened to what the paint was telling them; and, because of this they each left with a beautiful and unique piece to bring home. So much fun!!

Getting things ready for tomorrow night! Can't wait for the Chroma Studios Paint Night re-launch! This paint night sold out very quickly! Should I be hosting them more often? Would there be interest in having them twice a month instead of once a month? Comment below! The next Paint Night is (for the time being) scheduled for August 27th. I will be posting the event soon, make sure to snatch a spot to join us!... Can't wait!! <3

What I've been up to during isolation: Part 2. I've decided to learn how to draw flowers properly. I usually go straight to the watercolour without much of a plan, mostly to force myself out of my innate carefully-curated and perfectly-symmetrical state of mind. Drawing out each detail and planning every petal has allowed me, in this time of heightened chaos, to indulge in my usual type A tendencies, while still letting go a little in the painting process that followed.

What I've been up to during isolation: Part 1. I have two paintings to share, one complete and one still in the process. The first is of a geometric-organic galaxy. I loved making these two seemingly oximoronic themes combine into something beautiful. Many many layers were involved during the painting of this piece, to create more and more dimension. ... The second painting is of my livingroom. I sat in a corner as often as I could for a few days and drew two of our four bookshelves, my favourite reading chair and so on. Some aspects are added to "fill up" the painting, but it is mostly true to what you would see, sitting in my livingroom where I was. A stimulating challenge for me was figuring out perspective: from the viewpoint of this painting, for example, you see above some bookshelves but below others. Quarantine definitely forced me to see painting subjects at home. What you see in the painting is a work in progress. That yellow-ish goop is called masking fluid: it protects the area of the paper that I want to paint later, or, keep white. This painting will take a lot of time to paint in each and every detail, but, that was kinda the plan!

I was feeling so inspired by the paint night the other day that I made another galaxy painting! First time in a full size format, with metallic detail. I made sure to take a few pictures of the process this time, showing every layer. This one took me a day and a half: it was on the countertop of our kitchen. I added layers during the day when I could, let it dry, added details when my family didn't need my immediate attention, and finally got it done.
