Paying for Physiotherapy in Ontario Many people turn to physiotherapy for a range of different reasons that may include post-surgery rehabilitation, sports injuries, post-stroke rehabilitation, repetitive strain injuries, the need to increase strength, improve mobility and/or enhance independence. Physiotherapists help their patients live and function to their fullest potential. In Ontario, due to severe cost cutting by the government, there has been a shift from OHIP-cover...ed services to private clinics. At this point OHIP covers only physiotherapy services for kids under the age of 19 and seniors 65 years old and older. In some cases you may also qualify for OHIP covered treatments if you have had a surgery and/or have been hospitalized for more than 24 hours. However, there are very few OHIP covered clinics and the wait time for an appointment is usually quite extensive. Most people in need of physiotherapy usually end up choosing a private clinic and either pay for the services out of pocket or take advantage of their EHB (Extended Health Benefits) provided by the employer. Most insurance plans provide coverage for extended health care services which usually include: physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, naturopathy, osteopathy, as well as some durable medical equipment like wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, braces etc. Each plan is different and coverage may vary widely from plan to plan so it is important that a patient checks with his/her insurance provider as to what exactly is covered and what the annual limits are. Churchill Physiotherapy Clinic is a private clinic and we accept private insurance (most insurance plans allow now for direct billing so upfront payment may not be necessary), WSIB patients (work injuries), as well as MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) patients. However you pay for the services of a registered physiotherapist, you can rely on these highly trained professionals to help you regain your strength and mobility in order achieve your health goals.
