There are lots of ways for us to show gratitude. A phone call, a text, a note, a prayer. How has giving thanks helped you through hard times? #GiveThanks

#GiveThanks Our life with four autistic children is full of surprises and uncertainties and can sometimes be overwhelming, both for us parents and for our children with special needs. While we’re grateful for each one of our children, figuring out how to clothe, feed, educate, and communicate with them and keep them safe are daily concerns of ours. Additionally, teaching them about their heavenly home, where they came from, and that they have a Brother, Jesus Christ, who lov...es them infinitely, seemed at first like an insurmountable task. After some spiritual and mental wrestling, my husband and I decided early on that even when things would get complicated with our boys, we would strive to take the sacrament weekly to renew our promises with God and that we would regularly travel to the temple to be in the house of the Lord. At the beginning, this included a three-hour journey to the Frankfurt Germany Temple, where my husband and I would take turns attending the temple while the other one would take care of our children. What started out as a burdensome trip (traveling with four autistic children is quite complex) soon developed into a time of delight for all of us. Our children would go on walks with us within the temple grounds, and they would peek with longing eyes through the temple doors as they occasionally swung open. With joy and gratitude, we soon realized that these two- or three-day trips had a lasting effect on how our children learned about God, as they would frequently drop single words like ‘temple,’ ‘Jesus,’ and ‘family.’ When we heard about the upcoming open house of the then-newly renovated Freiberg Germany Temple, we decided to take the children there to be able to enter this holy place so that they could see with their eyes, touch with their hands, and feel with their hearts. As we slowly walked through each room on that special day, our children were mesmerized by the beauty of the temple and the serene feelings they were experiencing. To our surprise, they stopped their constant echolalic chatter and were reverently observing the baptismal font, the altars, and the many paintings of Christ. It seemed as if they could #HearHim in His holy house. Subsequently, over the next couple of years we were able to take our children to the Paris, Rome, and Frankfurt Temple open houses, where they blossomed every time as if they were coming home to hear Him. Taking the temple experiences back with us and creating holy ground in our family home through inspiring artwork, scripture videos, and music helps us and our children to hear Him daily, even if it may look and feel a bit different from other families’ traditions. I have no doubt that Christ knows and loves my children and is embracing them as they come to Him in their perfect imperfections. This fills me with tremendous hope and, most of all, so much gratitude. Sariah

#GiveThanks My family and I recently began the opportunity of a lifetime. It was a very big advancement in our career, certain to be challenging in many ways. We were very excited about it for many reasons, including the fact that we were moving to the island where my dad was born and raised! Somehow, living there, surrounded by my dad’s family and heritage, made us feel right at home. Just weeks after we moved my dad got sick, and, sadly, he passed away. The combination of ...the move and my dad’s passing made life really tough. I love the details that God puts in our lives that connect us to those no longer here. Here in Hawaii nearly everything reminds me of him. I walk the streets where he played with his cousins and swim and fish on the same beaches that he enjoyed many years ago. I miss his bright voice, his laughter, and his tender words of advice the comfort of a parent’s voice. I miss him dearly. How grateful I am for the testimony that he and I share of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. When I focus on that gratitude toward my Savior, though the pain of his loss is still present my heart is filled with peace. I have faith that someday we will reunite and enjoy the aloha of an eternal family. Keoni See more

For the next seven days, flood social media with a wave of gratitude using the hashtag #GiveThanks. Gratitude is a fast-acting and long-lasting spiritual prescription that soothes us from sorrow and sadness. Earlier today, global faith leader and prophet President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shared how you can experience its healing power: I invite you to turn social media into your own personal gratitude journal. Post every d...ay about what you are grateful for, who you are grateful for, and why you are grateful. At the end of seven days, see if you feel happier and more at peace. God helps us in our challenges and answers our prayers. #GeneralConference When you wonder how much pain you can endure well, remember Him. He suffered what you suffer so that He would know how to lift you up. He may not remove the burden, but He will give you strength, comfort, and hope. He knows the way. He drank the bitter cup. He endured the suffering of all. President Henry B. Eyring While we work and wait together for the answers to some of our prayers, I offer you ...my apostolic promise that they are heard and they are answered, though perhaps not at the time or in the way we wanted. But they are always answered at the time and in the way an omniscient and eternally compassionate parent should answer them. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland The Lord is aware of the challenges you face. He knows you, He loves you, and I promise He will send angels to help you. Elder Carlos A. Godoy Artwork by Richard Lance Russell

Christianity is comforting, but it is often not comfortable. The path to holiness and happiness here and hereafter is a long and sometimes rocky one. It takes time and tenacity to walk it. But, of course, the reward for doing so is monumental. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland #GeneralConference

To be Christlike, a person loves mercy. People who love mercy are not judgmental; they manifest compassion for others, especially for those who are less fortunate; they are gracious, kind, and honorable. These individuals treat everyone with love and understanding, regardless of characteristics such as race, gender, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and tribal, clan, or national differences. These are superseded by Christlike love. Elder Dale G. Renlund #GeneralConference Painting by Carl Heinrich Bloch, Christ Healing the Sick at Bethesda, Brigham Young University Museum of Art.

Each of us has a divine potential because each is a child of God. Each is equal in His eyes. The implications of this truth are profound. Brothers and sisters, please listen carefully to what I am about to say. God does not love one race more than another. His doctrine on this matter is clear. He invites all to come unto Him, ‘black and white, bond and free, male and female’ (2 Nephi 26:33). President Russell M. Nelson #GeneralConference Artwork by Michael Malm

Like a guiding star in a clear dark sky, Jesus Christ lights our way. He came to earth in a humble stable. He lived a perfect life. He healed the sick and raised the dead. He was a friend to the forgotten. He taught us to do good, to obey, and to love one another. He was crucified on a cross, rising majestically three days later, allowing us and those we love to live beyond the grave. With His incomparable mercy and grace, He took upon Himself our sins and our suffering, bringing forgiveness as we repent and peace in the storms of life. We love Him. We worship Him. We follow Him. He is the anchor of our souls. Elder Neil L. Andersen #GeneralConference Artwork by Yongsung Kim Havenlight.com

As we come unto Jesus Christ by exercising faith in Him, repenting, and making and keeping covenants, our brokennesswhatever its causecan be healed. This process, which invites the Savior’s healing power into our lives, does not just restore us to what we were before but makes us better than we ever were. I know that through our Savior Jesus Christ, we can all be mended, made whole, and fulfill our purpose. Sister Cristina B. Franco #GeneralConference Artwork by Kate Lee
