Today we have asparagus/ yard long beans. They are fast growing beans that have a very similar taste to green beans. These beans are best harvested between 25-30 cm (10-12 inches). If you wait too long the pods inside will get too big and the taste will change. However, they can be saved for seeds! A popular way to prepare them is to ferment them in salt water infused with peppercorn, star anise, bay leaf, ginger, and carrot. They can then be stir fried and served with plain... rice or congee. . . . . . . #greenbeans #aparagus #aparagusbeans #yardlongbeans #bean #organic #chineselongbeans #vegetablegarden #organicgardening #communitygarden #torontogarden #scarboroughgardens #torontogardeners #eatwhatyougrow #greenthumb #urbanfarming #canadiangardening See more

Our featured crop for the week is bitter melon again! This time we are featuring the Indian bitter melon aka Karela. This version of bitter melon is very similar in taste and only varies in its appearance. The Indian bitter melon is also harvested when they are a lot smaller as well. Indian bitter melons can be paired with nuts, coconut, and are great to include in curries. #bittermelon #bittermelons #melon #homegrown #greenthumb #communitygarden #organic #organicgardening #local #growyourownfood #theneedtogrow #growyourown #sustainableliving #locallygrown#eatwhatyougrow #urbangardening #urbanfarming #vegetablegarden #growfood #canadiangardening #canadiangardens #toronto #scarborough #harvest #harvest2020#karela

Our featured crop of the week is winter squash. We are currently growing Kabocha squash which is a Japanese variety. Squash is an amazing vegetable which is very dense and has a sweet flavour. It has a dark green skin and bright orange flesh. Squashes are also high in dietary fibre. Squash can be enjoyed roasted, baked, steamed and many more. One of my favourite ways is to cut them up like fries and then bake with salt, pepper, garlic powder and some paprika. Our featured cro...p of the week is winter squash. Our featured crop of the week is cucumbers. We are growing the heirloom variety Marketmore 76. Cucumbers taste amazing as they burst with a mild fresh flavour. Cucumbers can be enjoyed as is but are also great cooked. Cucumbers can also be a substitute for pasta and pickled and added into burgers. Another great way to enjoy cucumbers is to add it in your water with some mint which is a great alternative for sugary drinks on hot summer days like today! #cucumber#freshcucum...bers #greenthumb #communitygarden #organic #organicgardening #local #growyourownfood #theneedtogrow #growyourown #sustainableliving #locallygrown#eatwhatyougrow #urbangardening #urbanfarming #vegetablegarden #growfood #canadiangardening #canadiangardens #toronto #scarborough #harvest #harvest2020 #fruit #marketmore76 #organic #heirloom #fresh #ediblegarden #torontogarden #gardenfresh See more
