Cinefest/County Docs bring you their next streaming doc: "The Great Green Wall" (PG) running now until September 10 by clicking this link https://watch.eventive.org/do/play/5f3152e8232be200774319cd The Great Green Wall is an African-led movement with an epic ambition to grow an 8,000 km natural wonder of the world across the entire width of Africa. A decade in and roughly 15% underway, the initiative is already bringing life back to Africa’s degraded landscapes at an unprec...edented scale, providing food security, jobs and a reason to stay for the millions who live along its path. The Wall promises to be a compelling solution to the many urgent threats not only facing the African Continent, but the global community as a whole notably climate change, drought, famine, conflict and migration. Once complete, the Great Green Wall will be the largest living structure on the planet, 3 times the size of the Great Barrier Reef. Starring Inna Modja and directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God)

Starting Thursday July 24 to August 20, stream: "White Riot Punk Rock and the Politics of Race (PG)", with all proceeds to The County's All Welcome Here*. via this link: https://watch.eventive.org/films//5f15b3d7a2d82500365b3e77 Rock Against Racism (RAR) was formed in 1976, prompted by ‘music’s biggest colonialist’ Eric Clapton and his support of racist MP Enoch Powell. White Riot blends fresh interviews with queasy archive footage to recreate a hostile environment of anti-...immigrant hysteria and National Front marches. As neo-Nazis recruited the nation’s youth, RAR’s multicultural punk and reggae gigs provided rallying points for resistance. As founder Red Saunders explains: ‘We peeled away the Union Jack to reveal the swastika’. The campaign grew from Hoxton fanzine roots to 1978’s huge antifascist carnival in Victoria Park, featuring X-Ray Spex, Steel Pulse and of course The Clash, whose rock star charisma and gale-force conviction took RAR’s message to the masses. FilmsWeLike has made a number of films available on line to independent cinemas across Canada. These are generally not available on any other platform or media in Canada. The cost to stream is $9.99 CDN and the film will be available for 3 days after you opt to stream it. Cinefest/County Docs will receive up to half the revenue generated from the virtual screenings. All Welcome Here PEC is a non-profit focusing on linking people of colour in the rural community of Prince Edward Countyt to provide support, social connectedness and business assistance.

Because COVID (but really who doesn't like bread): Cinefest/County Docs presents, Bread: An Everyday Miracle (PG) Once merely a basic foodstuff, bread has become a product with ever more varieties and suppliers. But do we know what we are actually eating every day? The film takes us on an enlightening journey. We meet traditional artisan bakers and cereal farmers who can vouch for quality and sustainable ingredients. Director Harald Friedl also shows us the baking factories o...f transnational food corporations, who go to great technological lengths on their mission to recreate authentic taste. Industrially produced bread is fast becoming an artificial product. How can the craft of baking survive? And what will the bread of the future be like? Start Streaming "Sovereign Soil" (PG) now until Thursday July 9, 2020 presented by Cinefest/County Docs! $10 to download (that's 30% live County Docs tickets for two!) Just click this link when you're ready: https://watch.eventive.org/nfb/play/5edf8c45c384b50053d288e7 At the edge of Canada’s boreal forest, outside Dawson City, Yukon, a handful of unlikely farmers are growing everything from snow-covered Brussels sprouts to apples. These modern-day agrarians have carved out s...mall patches of fertile soil in an otherwise unforgiving expanse of isolated wilderness to make a living and a life. Dawson filmmaker David Curtis follows these resilient, unassuming farmers over the course of a year, watching as the heavy dark of winter gives way to the incessant summer sun. And as the seasons pass, time slows and transforms, reshaping notions of what really matters through the simple, rich day-to-day of people deeply tied to a life in the wilds. Sovereign Soil is an ode to the beauty of this ferocious, remote land and the wisdom of those who’ve chosen to call it home.

Did you miss the Linda Ronstadt doc before? Grab your couch and stream it now via Cinefest/County Docs and The Regent Theatre! "Linda Rondstadt" The Sound of My Voice" (PG) Available Friday, May 29 to Thursday, June 25! A musical biography of one of the most successful and versatile female singers of the 20th century and one of the most successful recording artists of all time. At the height of unprecedented success, Ronstadt, a restless and adventurous artist, turned away ...from pop music to explore an astonishing variety of musical styles, from American standards to country to classical operetta before circling back to her family roots with traditional Mexican canciones. Withstanding constant pressure from a risk-averse industry, Linda insisted on following her musical instincts. Today Ronstadt has Parkinson’s disease and her magnificent singing voice has been silenced. But rather than letting that voice be lost to history, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice tells Linda’s story through her own words and music, and by such professional colleagues as Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Aaron Neville among many others.
