Calling ALL Mothers As I complete the manuscript for my next book, Mothershift: Reclaiming Motherhood as a Rite of Passage, it’s extremely important to m...e to reach out to mothers who experience the full spectrum of what the transition to motherhood means in our modern-day context. This means, specifically, that I want to hear and amplify the voices of a diverse cross-section of people who take on a mothering role and/or have Mother as an identity, including but absolutely not limited to BIPOC mothers, non-binary and trans parents, single mothers, non-birthing mothers, and more. Mothershift explores the identity shift into motherhood, and so if you feel as though mothering has or is changing (or challenging or helping you remember) who you are, I would love to hear from you. I have convened a Facebook group (see the link in my profile) of women who want to share stories of their transition to motherhood. Right now this group is a place to access information and resources, ask questions, receive support, and hopefully feel a little less alone. Soon, I will be inviting interested people in the group to join online circle conversations to share their stories and experiences of #matrescence . I would love to welcome you in that group, and into these intimate story circles in the coming weeks and months. In recognition of the emotional labour I am asking of women who are already doing so much unpaid work and whose voices may have become weary from speaking out on behalf of the safety and well-being of themselves and their families, I am currently seeking funding to compensate under-represented mothers for their time should they choose to participate in one of the circles. I am learning how I can create brave spaces for all stories to be heard and held. If you would like to share your Mothershift experience with me but do not want to participate in the Facebook group or story circles, I welcome you to reach out to me via DM so that we can connect. Thank-you. I dearly hope that this book will be of service to mothers, that it will offer a small island of belonging and courage and possibility to those who read it.
