***COVID 19 - TRAVEL GUIDELINES*** Changes to Travel Guidelines by the Government of Canada, effective 7th January 2021On December 31st, 2020, The Government of Canada issued a new mandate to all international travelers arriving in Canada and the guidelines will come into effect from January 7, 2021. All air passengers of five years of age or older will be required to test negative for COVID-19 before traveling from another country to Canada. That means Pre-departure COVID-1...9 testing and negative results to be required for all Air-passengers traveling to Canada. Documentation of a negative laboratory test result must be presented to the airline prior to boarding a flight to Canada. The test must be performed using a COVID-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (or PCR) test (nasal swab) and must be taken within 72 hours prior to the traveler’s scheduled departure to Canada. Even with this new measure, if anyone who receives a negative test result and is allowed to enter the country still they must complete the full, mandatory 14-day quarantine period. Additionally, according to the requirements set by the Province of Ontario, you will still be required to receive a COVID-19 PCR test during your 14 days quarantine period. At this time we encourage you to comply and co-operate with this new order. Based on your arrival date, kindly arrange for a PCR COVID-19 test in your home country within 72 hours prior to your scheduled departure.

Good news for students coming to Canada Canada to offer more immigration pathways to temporary residents Canada is looking at offering more permanent residence pathways to foreign nationals who are already in the country.... Following the announcement that Canada would welcome over 400,000 immigrants per year over the next three years, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino told Bloomberg that the federal government will make an announcement on this soon. Both permanent and temporary residents have dropped significantly this year. After a net increase of more than 190,000 temporary residents in 2019, the first half of 2020 has seen that number decrease to 18,221. Permanent resident numbers are down 60 per cent year-over-year according to government data from August. What could changes look like? The minister did not hint at what the changes may entail, but his options may include one or more of the following: launching new federal pilot programs holding program-specific Express Entry draws modifying Express Entry’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to provide more points for Canadian experience modifying eligibility criteria for federal programs (e.g., reducing the work experience requirement for the Canadian Experience Class) extending the length of temporary work permit durations to give candidates more time to gain the Canadian work experience they need to be eligible to apply for an immigration program such as the Canadian Experience Class. The minister and IRCC have not provided any other indications on what reforms they have in mind, so stakeholders will need to await official word from the federal government.

Important new measures on post-graduation work permit eligibility for students beginning programs online:- On 26th August 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) provided an important update to reassure international students that they do not need to delay the start of their online program in the Fall 2020 intake and wait until a future term. ... Many prospective international students who would like to study in Canada this Fall are facing uncertainty due to travel restrictions. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada recognizes this, and will continue to ensure that Canada’s immigration programs are flexible to respond to these uncertainties with 3 new measures on Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility for students beginning programs online. These changes are being implemented to provide more flexibility on eligibility rules for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program for students who need or want to start their Canadian study program online from abroad. Three changes are being introduced:- Students may now study online from abroad until April 30, 2021, with no time deducted from the length of a future post-graduation work permit, provided 50% of their program of study is eventually completed in Canada. Students who have enrolled in a program that is between 8 and 12 months in length, with a start date from May to September 2020, will be able to complete their entire program online from abroad and still be eligible for a post-graduation work permit. Students who have enrolled in a program with a start date from May to September 2020 and study online up to April 30, 2021, and who graduate from more than one eligible program of study, may be able to combine the length of their programs of study when they apply for a post-graduation work permit in the future, as long as 50% of their total studies are completed in Canada. To be eligible for these measures, students must have submitted a study permit application before starting a program of study in the Spring, Summer, or Fall 2020 semester, or the January 2021 semester. All students must eventually be approved for a study permit. The easing of COVID-19 related restrictions will depend on the progress made in Canada and around the world in containing the spread of the coronavirus. pandemic. IRCC will continue to closely monitor the situation and assess whether further changes are needed.
