Dr. Caroline Porr, associate professor in the Faculty of Nursing, has been working to transition active learning strategies from a face-to-face course to remote delivery. In her first-year therapeutic relations course, she’s relying on the same active engagement principles she had used in the classroom, but adapting them to a remote environment. Among other strategies, Dr. Porr plans to maintain virtual face-to-face interactions as much as possible, and facilitate virtual role-play to simulate nurse-to-patient care. But most importantly, she plans to be attentive to students’ personal well-being, and acknowledges the additional stressors that come with learning to be a nurse during a pandemic.
