Picking up after your dog is not just the neighbourly thing to do, it’s the law. Owners must pick up after their pets, whether on public or private property. The fine for failing to clean up after a pet is $205. Learn more: https://bit.ly/36flb9b

***ADOPTIONS*** Are you looking to give a dog a forever home? Vaughan Animal Services is booking appointments at [email protected] to meet with adoptable animals that you can find on the link below. Copy & paste the link below.... https://www.vaughan.ca//residential/ani/Pages/default.aspx You can meet animals like Sawyer who is looking for his forever home. My name is Sawyer! I am a 2-year-old neutered male Yorkshire or Silky Terrier mix (we think!). I am currently living at Vaughan Animal Services awaiting the perfect home. I have a lot of love to give and would do well is most home settings, but no apartments or condos please (since I can be quite noisy when I want attention!). Sometimes I can be nippy if I get scared or if you touch my food too much so I will do best in a home without children. My favorite activities are running, playing, cuddling, barking, and treat time (I have LOTS of energy!). The ladies here don't think I would enjoy the company of another dog, but if you have a dog who loves other dogs, we can have a play date at my house to find out for sure! The ladies do know that I do well with my bathroom habits and am good in a large crate, so that's a plus. I would most likely get along with a cat who knows what it is like having dogs around. If you would like to come meet me, please call the shelter and make an appointment to see if we might be the perfect match! Every year I hand raise about 400 or so baby cottontails. Baby cottontails a lot of work to raise by hand. The majority come to us because of interactions with... cats and dogs. If you have cats or dogs and you know you have baby cottontails in your yard what can you do: - place a basket over the nest during the daytime and remove it when you and your dogs are in for the night. Replace the basket in the morning. This will allow mum to feed her babies during the night and keep the babies safe during the day. - Keep and eye on your dogs and cats. It take baby cottontails about 3 weeks from birth to grow up enough to disperse. It should not be too much to ask to keep an eye (and/or leash) on your pet for that time. Relocating the nest will most often result in mum being unable to find them or abandoning the babies. We realize that accidents happen particularly if you are unaware of a nest. We also know that a nest of bunnies can be an inconvenience to you, however Hobbitstee is a rehabilitation facility. We don’t operate on inconveniences. We care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. We also wish to prevent wildlife from becoming in distress to begin with. A great preventative measure is supervising pets. It keeps wildlife safe, but it also keeps your pets safe.

Managing Urban Wildlife With understanding and some simple precautions, residents can learn to enjoy the wild animals who share our backyards and cities. Often the best way to prevent issues with wildlife is to make small changes on your property and in your actions. For example, removing food sources, water and shelter will encourage wildlife to go elsewhere. ... Important points to remember Supervise your pets when they are outside. Keep your pets safely on a leash. Make sure your dogs and cats have up-to-date rabies vaccinations. You are required by law to vaccinate all cats, dogs, and ferrets over the age of three months. Do not feed or handle wildlife. NEVER transport or relocate wildlife.
