On Monday we did pumpkin carving. The kids used all kinds of materials from our arts carts to create these original looking #pumpkins . That carving and sculpt...ing lead to a discussion about our Halloween party decorations and we decided to get some supplies to make some. On our way to buy supplies we passed a pet store and met the two cats who live there and that lead to a discussion about cat body language and how it compares to human body language. At the dollar store the kids saw a skeleton model on display for Halloween and begged to buy it. When we returned to City School, they inspected it and had a discussion about human joints (especially the ball and socket ones). They even wondered aloud about cat joints. We are getting things organized for CitySchool on Thursday. The kids are really starting to understand how this works and we are doing our best to keep up with their requests! Thursday is making easles, a still life painting lesson, and kid challenge Youtube video if we have time and interest (we'll do it next week if we run out of time.) We still have lots of room on Thursday if you are looking for a pop up session. www.cityschool.ca Here is the letter I just wrote to p...arents who have already signed up online. Hi Folks! On Thursday we have Kinga Zak joining us to offer a professional art lesson with acryllic paints. Before Kinga arrives, we will offer materials for kids to make an easle out of wood, nails, and hammers (though we have a limited number of hammers so that we can make sure everyone is safe). Both of these activities will be in the shade in the backyard. If your child would be interested in taking part in these activities, we kindly ask that they wear clothing that would make sense for painting with acryllic paints (a smock that would be good for a summer day) and K5 thinks kids will need extra water for all that hammering. Kinga has asked to take some video of her art lesson and two of our learners have some interest in making a "kid challenge" YouTube video that we may post on the We Learn Naturally Youtube channel. So I am going to bring media release forms and ask that caregivers sign it (or not) and children can then choose whether they give their consent to participate in either of those activities without us having to get parents to sign after the fact.
