A huge congratulations today to Colleen Humphries, who retired in August after 32 years of service. Today she was joined by Mayor Parsons for the presentation of a certificate in honour of her work. Colleen started with the City of Corner Brook in 1988 as a Land Use Planner with the Development Control Department. Then, she began work as the City Planner, which changed to Community Planner Supervisor of Planning, in March, 2010. Colleen is known for her dedication to her work and pleasant personality when dealing with people. We'd like to thank her for all these years of hard work, and wish her the best for what comes next!

We had a VERY special visitor drop by City Hall, today! PSD Stella is the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s first ever Police Support Dog. She has been touring the province as a part of her training over the past few months. Eventually, she’ll become a mental health support for RNC staff as well as a calming presence for witnesses and victims under traumatic circumstances, especially children. We’d like to thank her handler Cst. Fagan for bringing her by. Staff were THRILLED with the visit! To learn more about this program (and for some great puppy photos), visit her page RNC Support Dog Stella.

The risk to Corner Brook is low at this time, but it's always good to be prepared. - Check your properties for potential flooding risk, or falling debris. - Make sure any adjacent catch basins are cleared. - Make sure you have enough supplies for at least 72 hours in case things get bad. ... There's more to preparedness than storm chips! Though they're good too. Please see the link below for some tips, as well as what the City is doing to get ready.

This past Saturday the Mayor was pleased to join the Western Environment Centre Newfoundland and members of our Youth Advisory Committee in officially opening the Reid St. Community Garden!
