Temporary City facility closures will continue following the extension of the province-wide lockdown until Saturday, Jan. 23. Ontario, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, is extending the shutdown of the seven public health unit regions in Northern Ontario until a...t least January 23, 2021, aligning with the shutdown period in Southern Ontario. In the nearly two weeks since Ontario moved into a Provincewide Shutdown, the COVID-19 trends in key public health indicators have continued to worsen in both Northern and Southern Ontario. With the increased risk of transmissions due to the confirmed presence of the COVID-19 UK variant in the province, Ontario is taking measures to ensure the safety of all Ontarians and the ability for the health system to provide care for patients. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there are changes to the way the public will make pre-budget deputations to City Council this year. There will be four options, including by videoconference, by telephone, through the City Hall lobby kiosk, or by sending a letter to the City Clerk to be included in the public agenda for Council and the public’s information. Deputations will be made on Jan. 14 and Feb 4. Both meetings will start at 6:30 pm and will be virtual via MS Teams. All... deputations must be scheduled in advance, and walk-in deputations will not be permitted. Requests can be made by emailing [email protected] or by completing the online "Speak Before Council" form. - For Jan. 14 deputations, requests must be received no later than noon on Jan. 11. - For Feb. 4 deputations, requests must be received no later than 4:30 pm on Jan. 29. Section 259 of the Municipal Act allows for members of council to take a leave from their duties. There is a provision in the Act that enables sitting members of council to be absent from their duties for up to three consecutive months with no penalty, said City Clerk Krista Power. The Office of the City Clerk will work with Councillor Hamilton to redirect email and respond to residents inquiries as they are received during his time away from Council.

Mayor Bill Mauro and Kevin Muloin, President, Métis Nation Local Council, raised the Métis Infinity flag at City Hall today in honour of Louis Riel Day. Nov. 16, marks the anniversary of the execution of Métis leader Louis Riel and today this day is used to celebrate the Métis culture and the Métis place in Canada.
