TRAVEL ADVISORY (as of 6pm on Feb 18): Bench Road (between Okanagan Landing Road and Bench Row Road) has been closed for the night due to poor winter driving conditions. Please slow down, give yourself extra space, and avoid travel if possible, on all local roads and highways. ROAD REPORT as of Jan 16: Traffic is currently one-way alternating on Lakeshore Road, as a small sink hole has developed near the bridge over Vernon Creek. Signs and barricades are in place. Motorists are asked to slow down and yield to traffic in the southbound lane.

As of January 13 at 12:40 pm: City crews are responding to a water main break on an easement in the 1400 block of Mission Road. Water service has been interrupted for approximately 20 residential properties on Commonage Place. Crews anticipate the repairs will take approximately 4-5 hours to complete. The City will provide more information as it becomes available and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. We appreciate the public’s patience as repairs are made to the site.

ROAD UPDATE as of 3pm: BC Hydro crews have arrived on scene to help remove a fallen tree and restore power to residences along Eastside Road. Eastside Road, just south of Russell Road, is expected to be reopened to traffic by 5:00 p.m today (January 13). Russell Road is now accessible to traffic.... The timeline for power to be restored to the area is currently unknown. For updates on power outages and repairs, please visit the BC Hydro website: www.BChydro.com/safety-outages.html - Original report: A tree and power lines have fallen across Eastside Road near the turn off to Russell Road, causing a temporary closure of both roads. Vernon Fire Rescue Services and City of Vernon Public Works crews are on scene. The tree is being removed and road closure signs will soon be in place. The roads will remain closed for the safety of the public and emergency responders while the power lines are repaired and the area is cleared. No injuries have been reported at this time. More information will be provided as it becomes available. Vernon Fire Rescue Services responded to an early morning apartment fire on Tuesday, December 8. At approx. 4:50 a.m., Firefighters were called to the 2900 block of 43rd Avenue, where they found a heavily involved fire on the balcony of a main floor suite. Thanks to the quick and precise action of the Firefighters on scene, the fire was knocked down quickly and did not spread to adjoining units or the floor above. ... Vernon North Okanagan RCMP and BC Ambulance Service were also on scene. One person was taken to hospital with injuries. 2021 monthly parking passes for City of Vernon surface lots and the parkade will be available as of 8:30 a.m. on Friday, December 4. Passes can be purchased at City Hall, and are available first come, first served. Payment can be made by cheque, Interac or cash. City Council has endorsed the 2021 budget and 2021-2025 Financial Plan, which includes a 2.13% increase for the coming year. During the budget deliberations, Council carefully considered the various financial impacts that have been experienced by individuals, families, businesses, and our community as a whole, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said Mayor Victor Cumming. Council has endorsed a budget that is well-balanced and responsible, which maintains levels of service our citizens have come to rely upon, and provides financial stability for our taxpayers, where possible, as we move towards a period of local economic recovery.
