Hello Civically Speaking Friends, On Tuesday evening, Wendy Cooper and James Yachyshen, had a lively 60 minute discussion with me unpacking the civic election that was suspended on Monday evening in Saskatoon due to a snow fall that happened on the weekend that left many streets impassible. The Province provided early in the morning for municipalities, through the Elections Act, to allow local Chief Returning Officers to make the call if alterations regarding voting had to... be made due to the snow fall preventing people from getting to the polls. Saskatoon announced in the morning it would make a decision in the early afternoon. At just before 5 pm they called a suspension of the election by 6:30 pm that evening for it to resume on Friday from between the hours of 9am to 8 pm. Through the following day, it was then announced, polling stations would be reduced from 65 polls to 5 polls spread out in the city - with one venue on the east side. Not known at the time of the airing of this episode was that an additional 6th poll was added to the east side at Prairie Land Park for the election that will be taking place on Friday, November 13, 2020. Yup - only in 2020 can we have stories like this. We also, in this episode, take some time to unpack the results of some of the other municipal elections that took place around the province, including Regina's first elected female mayor in Regina. This includes sharing about the upset of an incumbent mayor in North Battleford, a new Mayor elected in Yorkton with some notoriety as a photographer, and, a close race that had the incumbent come through in Prince Albert. Tune in and stay tuned to community radio where we go places that other media are not able to. Thanks Wendy and James for being part of the Post Results show that did not happen. Civically speaking, Lenore
