This weekend we had another momentous Drift Jam #spookyvibes event at Gamebridge Go-Karts. It was a full day that went into night of awesome #drifting from the... best of the best that we could get together. I am so proud of our community and what it stands for. We stand with our pal, Antonio as he battles #leukemia Thank you to all that showed him love and support and took him out for some cool rides in drift cars. This is what community is about! If you wanna get to know Antonio, one of his favourite shows is #battlestargalactica hence our new motto #FrakLuekemia #wearethegrassroots : Xyrus

SPECIAL EVENT! We know its short notice, but this Sunday April 14 NewMakeIt's Build Club is going to use our facility to launch a High Altitude Weather Balloon ...(SpaceNMX) to the 'Edge of Space'! Spectators FREE, but be warned - its a 7:30 am launch so come early and dress warm! Given the amazing dark skies that we enjoy at night at the track we are also planning to have FREE stargazing nights throughout the summer. We will have telescopes and amateur astronomers onsite and everyone is welcome! Feel free to bring your kids and explore the beauty of the night sky with us! In the meantime, here is the official Press Release for the SpaceNMX launch! ***************************************** PRESS RELEASE NewMakeIt's Build Club to Launch High Altitude Weather Balloon (SpaceNMX) to the 'Edge of Space' Sunday April 14th, 2019 A weather balloon filled with helium will carry a specially made payload, including sensors, trackers, data loggers and cameras, approximately 30,000+ meters (100,000- feet, 19 miles) into the Earth's atmosphere before expanding and popping in the thin air and falling back to the ground under a parachute made to slow its descent. The carefully planned launch is scheduled to take place 7:30 AM on Sunday April 14th, 2019 at the Gamebridge Go-Kart grounds, 2687 Concession Road A, Brechin, ON, with an easterly flight path predicted to last 2 1/2 hrs with a touchdown location somewhere near Frontenac Township north of Kingston. The project, months in the making, involves following strict guidelines on weight and payload content. A flight plan has been submitted to NAV CANADA FIC and a radar reflector included in the payload. The balloon is tracked using radio APRS signals and a satellite GPS tracker. The Build Club's members will form 3 units some with multiple roles including the launch team; communications and tracking and the chase and retrieval team. If all goes well, around lunch time Sunday, the Build Club hopes to have retrieved the payload and be able to view video and images capturing the flight, curvature of the earth and landing. During the flight the payload will experience -60C temperatures, extremely thin air, wind turbulence and high initial descent rate before the parachute catches thicker air. The days events will be live streamed on Twitch and a YouTube video is planned once all the captured images and videos can be processed and edited. The mission is fraught with many potential hazards: It is the teams' first launch; predicted flight paths may prove wrong; the balloon and/or parachute may malfunction; trackers may fail and the payload may fall into water or get stuck high in trees making retrieval difficult. It is these elements that make the challenge both fun, educational and rewarding. If successful, the BuildClub looks to repeat the process and open the payload perhaps to high school's to challenge students to include experiments for high altitude/thin air conditions and to improve heights reached and images captured. NewMakeIt's Build Club is a group of like minded members who gather (typically Wednesday evenings) to work on projects of interest to them; to share knowledge; learn from each other and to stretch their abilities in a friendly and social atmosphere. The NewMakeIt members would like to thank the following for their support Gamebridge Go-Karts Brechin Motorsport Park www.gamebridgegokarts.com *****************************************
