First foal if 2019! A colt born Feb 12/19.
One of the more interesting cases of my career. This mare aborted a fetus in the fall of 2017 and had a nice healthy colt this spring. Mother Nature 1 - science 0
Sometimes you need a comfortable place to lie down and if it fits, it sits
Interesting notes from Rood & Riddle
This was just too cute not to post. This little one had a rough start. But is thriving and making people smile. Hope this makes your day.
First baby finally arrived only 15 days late! A quarter horse filly owned by the Lepp family! #itsbabytime #springishere

2018 is now upon us and we want to take a moment to reflect on how enjoyable, fulfilling and busy our 2017 year had been. 2017 started off with an incredible breeding and foaling season right along side with with the normal routine of dentistry, vaccines and general equine maintenance. We continued the year by adding a hugely successful season at the racetrack for all of our clients. Fall brought some interesting cases that came with successful outcomes. We want to show our gratitude and thank all of our clients for being apart of another wonderful year. Looking forward to what 2018 holds!
As breeding and foaling season are all wrapped up; We would like to have a recap of the whirlwind of a spring and summer. Between mud puddle babies, inducing mares, 4hr dystocias, dummy foals, unruly mares and premature babies we had an incredibly successful foaling and breeding season. All while working long hours at the race track and our usual farm calls. We would like to thank all of our clients for entrusting us with there equine companions and look forward to working with you in the future.
EHV 1 - neurological form As I'm sure most of you are well aware via social media there has been a confirmed case of EHV 1 the neurological form in the virden area. The farm has been quarantined and proper biosecurity measures are in place. It is imperative at this to take proper precautions in order to keep everyone safe. ... At this time if your horse has not been vaccinated with calvenza, prodigy, or pneumobort within the last 2 months it is highly suggested you do so. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact us! See more
All the necessities... timmies, Advil, and a cute puppy!
Sarcoids.... taking a different approach. A few months ago we treated a young horse with an unsightly sarcoid on his knee. We tested out the Autologous vaccine treatment and are happy to report we had great success! This was a multiple step treatment as at first we wanted to ensure it was a sarcoid so sent it away to pathology. Often proud flesh has a similar look so best to be correct before starting the procedure. ... First day was removal of the 'mass' and a biopsy sent off for evaluation. Cryo treatment was also performed on the mass removal site. The remainder of the mass was processed into the vaccine in the hopes our findings were correct and it truely was a sarcoid we were dealing with. Once the pathology report solidified our findings we were able to place the vaccine. The horse was lightly sedated, clipped and cleaned and the processed pieces were placed back into the horses neck thru small stab incisions. The incisions were sutured closed. The horse was placed on antibiotics and monitored closely by the owners for any infection. 3 months has passed and we were able to see said horse for the first time since vaccination. The horse has healed tremendously well and no sign of sarcoid recurrence!
First patient of the day!

Cool case! This Horse was presented to us with a pliable lump on the inside of his right from leg. The history given was that the horse was noticed one day having a small superficial wound on the inside of the leg. Not sore. Owners cleaned up the wound and it healed up nicely. A few weeks later this lump appeared. On examination said horse was not lame and not tender on palpation. X-rays where taken, which showed a foreign body....... Horse was sedated, and the lump was opened up. Too everyone's surprise hundreds of thriving bot eggs were expelled, the wound was flushed, wrapped, and the lump has not appeared since! See more
