Hello Claude E. Garton families! Publicly funded school boards in Ontario are required to survey families to gauge interest and demand for having a Before-and-After School childcare program offered in their child(ren)’s school community. If you have children in our school, in Kindergarten to Grade 6, who are currently not enrolled in a Before-and-After school program, please take some time to fill in the survey. (Please read the page below for more information). Survey link: https://tinyurl.com/BASPLPS

It was great to see the sea of pink shirts at Claude E. Garton today, a show of support for Pink Shirt Day, which recognizes and encourages kindness and empathy towards others. A great day visually here at Claude, but we practice kindness and respect every day! Go Cougars!

Dear Claude E. Garton Families, Following yesterday's announcement by the Premier, we are confirming that our school remains open :) There will only be a few changes arising from the announcement that affect our school. Beginning Thursday, January 14th: * Masking for students in grades 1-3 is now mandatory (strongly recommended for kindergarten as well)... * Students in grades 1-12 are now required to wear a mask outdoors * Students in grades 1-12 must wear a mask when riding the bus. (This is also strongly recommended for kindergarten) Should you be unable to provide your child with a mask, please contact your school principal. Students and staff will continue to use the daily COVID-19 screening tool prior to attending school in person. Any Ministry updates to the screening tool will automatically be made to the website. We also ask that parents who are dropping off or picking up children from the school wear their masks. Thank you for your cooperation and your contribution to keeping our school a safe place to learn.

February 1, 2021 is the second of three set dates where elementary students can move between remote and in person learning. Should you choose to have your child... move from their current school location follow these steps: 1 - Have a conversation with the teacher/early childhood educator and school principal about the concerns you have with your child’s current situation and the reasons for wanting a change. Schools will work to provide solutions to concerns and barriers. 2 - If, after those discussions, you still feel a change is preferred, contact your school principal directly to request the change. These requests must be made between 9 AM January 11 and 4 PM January 15. We are not able to honour requests made after January 15 due to the impact of staffing changes in the system. 3 - The principal will document the request, and between January 20 and 27, new class lists and school reorganizations may occur. 4 - You will be contacted by your child’s new teacher on January 28 or 29 and your child will start in their new placement on February 1. Should you have any questions, please contact your school principal.

We were very fortunate to welcome Canadian author Eric Walters to our school today! He put on a virtual presentation for both grades 3-5 and 6-8. During his presentation, Mr. Walters discussed his many books, his writing process, the orphanage he opened in Africa, and his charity Creation of Hope, which helps fund education for children in Kenya. Thank you to Mrs. Ulvang for organizing this event for our school; our students were very inspired by his visit. You can learn more about this author and his charity at EricWalters.net
